some question on lens

how does these 3 lens compare to EF 28-105 II on optics quality and AF speed?

Tokina AF 28-70mm f/2.8 AT-X
Tokina AF 28-70mm f/2.6-2.8 AT-X Pro II
Tokina AF 28-80mm f/2.8 AT-X Pro


i am also thinking of gettingthis lens. any comments?

from my experience, in general, the usm of the 28-105 is faster than the tokinas. this is just a hands on feel..maybe its coz of the silki-smoothness of the usm when used in AI servo that contributes to the "faster" sensation. tokina AF on the cam body will work but will be"jerky"

for the tokinas, the general consensus is they are not sharp @2.8. it will be acceptable@f4 and better by 5.6

Am also considering the lenses that you have mentioned. Currently, not many people able to comment (don't know why). Also, do you know where we can test a sigma 70-200 f2.8 (HSM)? Have already tested the Tokina one and was not very impressed by it. Had the chance to test the Sigma 120-300 f2.8 and it BLEW me away. Hope to test the 70-200 b4 plonking out the cash to get it.

Because those who own a tokina 28-70 does not own a Canon 28-105 thus unable to compare?

Toknia never had a 70-200 ..... anyway, I had a toknia 28-70 and 80-200 before and is quite happy with the results.

You can try TCW, they should have some sigma 70-200. The build is good.

Hi blurblock, juz want to know how you find the AF speed of the 80-200 of the Tokina. Tested it out @ CP last week but found it rather disappointing. Have you ever managed to compare it with the Sigma HSM range?
