Remember: If MSN dies on you again, reverse the steps below. I was told that this is a temporary measure that would last till wednesday only. =)

Helloooo pple.
If you're getting a "service is temporarily unavailable" error,

follow these steps:
go to c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc
open the file called "hosts" using wordpad
add these lines to the bottom
65.54.239.80 messenger.hotmail.com
65.54.239.80 dp.msnmessenger.akadns.net

save and exit
open MSN, it should work

any idea why suddenly we need to map our ip directly to msn's ip?
 

This will only be available for 48hrs. Remove it once the servers are back to normal.
 

Hmm.. my guess is that something screwed up so you need to manually direct the program to the server.

dunno, not into IT that much anymore, anyone have insights?

TW, do add this to the original post. Or else people will start wondering why they cant access msn on wed.

Mostly likely is a DNS problem.
