the flower seem like not in focus ... what is the settings for this shot ... look like DOF is too shallow to capture the whole flower in focus ...

from the settings , it looks okay for me
Focal length: 68.0 mm

what is the distance from ur G2 lens to the flower ? seem like u have moved too close to the flower ...

min macro distance for G2 is mid of 6cm to 20cm ... base on ur focal length

Can't remember the distance, probably you are right, I was too close. BTW I had +4 +2 +1 macro lens stack. How much will that affect the macro distance?

by adding closeup filter , your dc are able to focus closer distance thus object will look bigger

depend on the object size ... if it is big , you may not need any filter.

if you stack all the 3 filters , your dc can go very close to the object ... able to take super macro shot ... however the shot will have distortion around the corner ..
