some advice anyone?

An external flash with wireless function is a must for extreme sports .. Even if it means shooting in broad daylight. it'll really bring your pictures to a whole new level ;)

Most important of all, Composition. Are you shooting at an angle that makes the viewer feels like the action is just taking place in front of their eyes. You could view those photos taken in extreme sports magazines to get a better idea of what angle they are taking. Yes, flash is important due to low light and you want to freeze the action, wireless flash is not a must, it all depends the available light and what you want to achieve in your photos.

if youre not using external flashes shoot during the day.
you want to freeze the action usually

That skate park is too dark, you need to use flash.

Not my photo, but to give you an idea on how bmx are normally shot:

Thanks for the pics.
Did they use flash for the first one? like day shots

yep.
generally a slave flash triggered using radio pops.
most proffesional skate/bmx photogs i know use at a minimum 3 lights so you get the right lighting on a subject, specially with highlighting from the back.

Sorry OT but i recognise a few of them there in your photos haha, I hang around there very often, its a great place during the day to take photos anyway, the lighting at night is screwed up!! NPark is not doing **** about it, they are supposed to have white lights from 7ish to 11, but at 7 only 1 of the 7 white lights are working, and the rest of the skatepark are dimly lit with orange lights. Ughh, i hope NPark does something about it

unfortunately thats also the worst time to shoot unless you know some personally and have the room to set up lights...

street is pretty simple but not once have i set up lights at ecp without having at least one thing knocked over haha

There is alot of room to set up lights at the combo-bowl. The skaters there love, and i really mean LOVE having their pictures taken, just approach them and ask if they want their photo taken, most of them would want you to upload it on facebook or something. haha 2cents worth.

plenty of room but whenever i'm chillin with some mates there there's always some stupid little kid on a renegade board that will run a light over.. came close to losing a brand new 580ex there once xD
