There are many many Singapore projects in China after Suzhou industrial park, if you do not already know. Some of them are very successful.

I think there are many reasons for such projects.

One would probably to curry favour with the Chinese government and deepen relations. Another would be to provide our own enterprises opportunities. For example GLCs like Surbana/JTC would probably gain an upper hand in bidding for consultancy projects at such G to G projects?

Also there is much money to be made in real estate in China. Look at how Capitaland and mapletree is doing in China and you will understand.

This is a high level investment project again to be jointly developed between the government of both countries. Would our garmen be able to stand up to PRC when the situation calls for it?

It is in our interests to see China succeed.

Chinese are our comrades in arms in the long march to prosperity and world peace.

:)

I only wish that the PRC would also have our interest at heart ...... then we might be able to have a Disneyland or even a Jurassic Park in Singapore.... :bsmilie:

I agree. You and I also helped and contributed towards their success .....Maybe it's about time for us to retire :)

Of course not. But the key point is some stakeholders get to reap in some high value projects. In the end there are some winners and some losers at the expense of the taxpayers in Singapore.

BTW there are many such projects already. Suzhou is old news.

...... looks like we will have to slog till 86.... ;)

Disclaimer: 86 is just a number conjured by an uniformed source about the retirement age in Singapore. The actual figure may change depending on how we fare in our foreign exchange.

What to do?

Teach our diplomats how to say NO..... :)

Tell Singaporeans to stay clear of PRC women .....:bsmilie:

ANd our leaders and diplomats are motivated by the better good and wishes of the common folk? hmmm

I still recall this very clearly when it happen and how many people were burned. We were use to get in to teach them how to build their own and what they did was use what they learn/copy within the same project period to quickly build way faster Industrial parks of their own around the Suzhou Industrial Park we cooperated with them to build. One they have learned and they seem to do it very quickly, they don't need us anymore. Talk about a slap in our face and you know who's too.

And what about the many now famed GHOST CITIES that are erected up but totally empty for years in their over anticipation of a fast economy and real estate boom. All of which has not seen any result for many years yet and remain empty. There is ambitious and there is ambitious.

Suzhou Industrial Park Project.
