SINGAPORE: Singapore will have a big celebration on Thursday, when the result of who will host the Youth Olympic Games (YOG) in 2010 is revealed.

The announcement will be beamed via satellite from Lausanne, Switzerland, the headquarters of the International Olympics Committee to the Padang where the celebrations is set to take place.

Channel NewsAsia will also carry the announcement ‘LIVE’ on its SouthEast Asia Tonight bulletin at 7pm.

But from 5.30pm, the Padang will be turned into a carnival area with games and performances by schools, Project Superstar winners, Darren and Di Ya, and Asian Idol, Hady Mirza.

Richard Tan, Director of Communications and International Relations, Ministry of Community Development, Youth and Sports, said: "We have a very good chance of winning this bid. Even if we don't win, we had won because the journey that we have taken so far has given us a lot of experience in knowing how to go for something bigger than ourselves."

Singapore and Moscow are the two cities left in the running to host the Games.

Over 700 local and international companies have pledged support for Singapore's bid.

Some 5,000 people representing schools, youth organisations and corporations will be present at the Padang on Thursday as they anticipate the outcome of Singapore's bid for the YOG.

And to show support for Singapore's bid, everyone attending the event is encouraged to wear red.

Several roads leading to the area will be closed to traffic or diverted from 4pm to 9pm. This include St Andrew's Road and Connaught Drive. The public is advised to take public transport to the area. - CNA/vm
