TWO MEN ARRESTED FOR KIDNAPPING WITHIN 12 HOURS #sgpolicearrest

Police have arrested two Chinese men, aged 41 and 50, who are believed to be responsible for a case of Kidnapping.

On 8 January 2014 at about 2.13pm, the informant, a 52-year-old man lodged a Police report stating that he had received a call from an unknown person who demanded that he pay a ransom of 20 million Singapore dollars for the return of his 79-year-old mother. The informant’s mother was last seen in the vicinity of Hougang on the morning of 8 January 2014.

Upon receipt of the report, officers from the Criminal Investigation Department and Police Intelligence Department responded immediately and conducted intensive probes and ground enquiries to establish the whereabouts of the 79-year-old victim and to also track down the possible suspect(s).

On 8 January 2014 at about close to midnight, under the instructions of the kidnappers, the informant placed a bag containing cash of two million Singapore dollars in Sembawang Park and left the area. The kidnappers then released the victim in the vicinity of Seletar West Camp in the early morning of 9 January 2014. Having ensured the victim’s safety, Police continued with our operations and the two suspects were arrested in the vicinity of Hougang and Ang Mo Kio within 12 hours from the time that the report was lodged. Police also recovered the two million Singapore dollars which had been paid out as ransom.

The case has been classified as one of Kidnapping under the Kidnapping Act Chapter 151, which is punishable on conviction with death or life imprisonment and also with caning. The two suspects will be charged in Court on 10 January 2014.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Investigations & Intelligence) concurrent Director of the Criminal Investigation Department Hoong Wee Teck said, “I wish to commend the officers’ investigative acumen and their swift actions on the ground which resulted in the successful arrest of the suspects. Kidnapping for ransom is very rare in Singapore but is a very severe offence which is punishable by life imprisonment or the death penalty. Police will spare no efforts to bring such perpetrators to justice, ensuring that they face the full brunt of the law. Time is of the essence to solve kidnapping cases. In this particular case, and the few that were solved several years ago, we are grateful that families of victims remained calm and composed, alerted Police without delay, and cooperated fully with us so that investigations could be conducted and swift action taken from the onset.”

Our police force have done a professional job :)

We should give them a thumb up :)

You know the kidnappers are losers when the ransom demand can be be quickly negotiated down from $20 Million to $2 Million. However they are better than some kidnappers who kill their victim even after ransom has been paid.

Many many years ago in Malaysia the kidnappers sent the family a ear of their victim to confirm they had the goods.

I hope they get the procedure right. Don't give those cowards any loop hole to exploit. Be it for lighter sentence, sympathizers from public or human rights group.

Dam cowards.. only go against an elderly.

Suddenly SPF become hero and can justify full bonus already, many thanks to supermarket uncle for his help.

Mr Lim may want to consider donating the 2mil to charity. This money is meant to be given off.

Didn't i say this place is getting VERY DANGEROUS??
Riots, and now kidnapping !!
WTH is going on?

No problem at all in this particular case. Culprits were bumbling idiots. They were not professional organised crime elites.

However, there may be copy cat kidnappings further down the road for the really rich intended victims staying at , say for example Sentosa Cove.
And this time, the kidnappers are ruthless?

This case may have awakened the crooks to notice that there are some really rich people in SG. Ordinary poor folks like us got nothing to worry about. Most of us are, as some one says, in the bo lui category. So we are safe to talk co*k sing song in kopitiam "for free".
