Hi all,

Bcos of the bugget constrain, looking for general purpose zoom lense.
Want to know which 3rd party lense to go for, wish some professional advice.

Thank you so much.

18-200 super zoom lens would be good to start off with...

General purpose zoom will be Sigma 18-200 OS lens

tamron 17-50mm f2.8
tokina 16-50mm f2.8
sigma 18-50mm F2.8 EX DC
sigma 18-50mm F2.8 EX DC MACRO
sigma 17-70mm F2.8-4.5 DC MACRO

Is the range or the constant aperture more important to you?

18-200 has a good range but not very useful in very low light situation (w/o flash).
Tokina 16-50mm f2.8 is a very nice walkabout lens with constant aperture, but lose out in terms of the range.

Tamron 18-250mm f/3.5-6.3, image quality is better but price also more expensive than 18-200mm version.

Sigma 18-200mm... sharper than the Tamron 18-200mm and cheaper too

Sigma 18-200 OS! nothing come close when comparing usability for ultra zoom lens

Btw, what is your budget? The fine lens fellow CSers have recommended are $600-$800 brand new.

why u choose over tamron than sigma?

That was the question I wanted to ask too.......

I dont know with brand to go to, but feel that Tamron is better on build quality.

Regards.

think the reviews for the tamron 17-50 2.8 are infinitely better than the sigma or tokina version...a clear winner. bought mine in april and loving it. cheers.

Agree, I am using the Tamron 17-50, Sigma 70-300 and Tokina 100 macro lenses. All third party lens except the Nikon 50mm f1.8.
