The X3 is capable of capturing 3 colours in a single pixel while the rest is only 1 colour per pixel.

Theoretically, that makes it a 9 megapix D-SLR
wonder if there's anyone who did a review on this cam?

This is very interesting news indeed. Looks like the Foveon sensor is finally no longer vapourware and the camera is indeed pretty competitively priced (contrary to previous speculation that initial prices would exceed those of current D-SLRs. I do hope that someone will finally get their hands on a production camera and lay to rest once and for all the debate over the quality of the Foveon sensor....

Now when is Olympus going to announce the Olydak?! :D

That's not exactly true; the output files will probably still be 3-megapixel, but there will be no need for Bayer interpolation unlike all current digital cameras, and this should result in much greater resolving power and colour detail.

Sigma has broken through yet another barrier, the all important price factor. If the technological advantages of the SD-9 were not enough to place Sigma head and shoulders above the traditional digital SLRs currently available, then the ground breaking price of £1105.53 + VAT (SRP £1299.99 inc VAT), for the camera body, will make top quality digital photography affordable to a whole new army of photographers both professional and amateur.

The SD-9 will be available in the shops from 25th October 2002.
