Anyone have any advice/comments for me?
(Like wether this is good enough for a starter. At least, for 1 to 1 and a 1/2 years (referring to lenses) and which to choose 70-200 or 18-200)
Roughly decided on the 40D + Speedlite 430EX + Sigma AF 18-200mm f/3.5-6.3 DC OS/Canon 70-200 f/4L + Sigma AF 10-20mm f/4-5.6 HSM EX DC

You may want to consider other lens to replace the 18-200 as I think you may not want to use the 10-20 when you put on the 18-200. :)

18-200 is a good general purpose lens. I guess that's y you wanted to get it. I had it once but had sold it. because there will be times you wished it was faster.

you might want to share a bit more on why you chose these 2 lens and why is ur main usage of ur new camera-to-be.

What Do You Mean? Anyone can tell me what KY means by saying I would not want to use the 10-20?

UP :) Really Need HelP!

hmmm i don't quite understand his point as well. Maybe he knows something about the 10-20 that we don't?
I notice that you actually have THREE lenses on your list:
- Sigma 10-20
- Sigma 18-200
- Canon 70-200L
in that case the 18-200 is sorta overkill. You're likely to use the 70-200L lens to justify the purchase, aren't you? ;)
The zoom ranges overlap quite a bit.
Perhaps you might want to consider a 17-50 Tamron?
So you have 10-20, 17-50, 70-200.
There's some missing mm in there (50-70), but you're not likely to miss it too much.
Nikon has an 18-70 (D70 kit lens), but I'm not sure what is the Canon equivalent. Probably there is one as well.

Your choice of lens seem to be over lapping quite abit in terms of focal range. I would probably do a good walk about lens (of course it may be different for you) like the fast lens Tamron 17-50, which is rather affordable. On top of that, you could then get a telephoto lens giving you a longer range to 200 or more.

With massive overlapping, you may end up using a particular lens. But of course, you may then realise you don't actually need the rest, and sell them off at a good price.... ;p

Anyhow, have a good thinker through, and see the sort of photo that you take, and go from there.

You would find the second combo sorely lacking from 20-70mm unless you throw in a 24-70 into the mix. The Sigma 18-200mm will get you versatility at the expense of quality.
