Hi,

Anyone has any experience on the Sigma 18-50mm lens that is specifically created for use with Digital Camera?

Anyone got anything good or bad to say about the Sigma 18-50mm lens?
I'm thinking of buying one and am looking for user comments.
It's been more than 3 months after the last post, surely someone would have bought and tried the lens already.

small, light, easy to handle, reasonably sharp (look in dpreview forums for goodsamples, din really use mine with a tripod or under good lighting conditions) and best of all dirt cheap(<200) for a 18mm. Used it a few times at night for some shots ard the city. Quite easy to handhold. However the front element rotates so using circular polarizer may be a bit troublesome. It vignettes til 24mm on film, so u can double it as a 24-50 lens on film. However no aperture ring, so only cams with electronic contacts need apply. Anything else u need to know?

i had this lens and i did some comparison shots against some primes namely the 24 2.8 sigma, 28 2.8 canon and the 50 1.8 canon. Shots were taken with tripod and fixed focal point, lighting etc. Ran this test twice with an independent checker. lolz ...... i must say i was very impressed with the results of this cheap light lens. Infact i sent some shots to a wide-angle `specialist' and he too confirm my findings. Too much to discuss here but all i would say is if you are looking for a cheap, light and portable lens, this is it. Infact i let some Csers try out this lens and generally most are happy with its VFM (value for money) factor. then again its only a 0.02 cts newbie's opinion!! ............... t  m

Thanks for the encouraging comments, guys. I bought the 18-50 lens today ($180 incl tax at MS Color in Ang Mo Kio). I'm very impressed by the optics and build quality. Sigma is no stigma, at least with this lens. It easily is as good or better than 19-35's that are twice the price. There's no auto-focusing problem at the widest end either (referring to someone's unanswered question in another thread).

wah, yesterday ask ms clolor no stock, now today have already...
but is this lens plastic? and does it come with a hood?

Wah! Seem like a very good lens. I had read an acticle from PopPhoto mar'04 and the grading of this lens is good. Will get one to play play. I am using a tamron 19-35 at the moment. The 77mm pol filter is expensive, almost equal to the cost of Sigma lens! So, where is the best place to get this good lens?

Anybody had try out the 55-200?

Cheers.

i've used this lens b4, and found that this lens is generally fast and sharp, but the only bad thing is that its focusing is noisy, not good for quiet environments (e.g seminars, concerts) :nono:
sold it away few months back for $150 :bsmilie:

Looks really good, slight CA though. For the price, it's a keeper.
