Anyone interested in getting Sigma 18-50mm f/2.8 EX DC from US ?
Estimated around S$550 (shipping/gst/inclusive). US Warranty.
Anyone knows can it be converted to international warranty here in SG ?

make sure it is a micro version

You are right ... it isn't the MACRO version.

I am trying to find out the price of the MACRO version. What's the price in SG ?

hmm.. I have this lens, got from M S Color at $830.

It's very sharp throughout, f2.8 constant, and is parfocal too...

The MACRO version cost about $680 from US.
In that case the OP price is very attractive.

Beside the MACRO, is there any other difference in the len image quality ?
The f2.8 is a very attractive feature.

Seems to be the 17-70 is a much better performer and better value.

Check with Orient Photo, they have the cheapest Sigma lenses.

I haven't read the reviews. But that is odd...
I thought the EX lens are supposed to be Sigma top of the line?

Unless you must have constant aperture, save the money and get the cheaper (and better) 17-70. Build quality for both seem about on par.

Yeah... I didn't need the constant aperture...
And i did get the 17-70... :D

18-50 got macro tho

The current 17-70 DC got macro too. OP $550-580 (grey), MS $599 + free filter.

18-50 cmi at wide open f2.8, but infact, so are all the 3rd parties... (for F mount that is)

Having used them for work and still having the 18-50, AFS17-35/28-70 with me now..

Fortunately at least, the sigma gives very sharp shots comparable to the trinities/ or AFS17-55 at F4 and above. If you are looking to use for events and will be using with flash/bounce/LS most of the time, then there should be no diff from 17-55...

Thanks for all the comments ... :) will be getting a 17-70 soon

most of the time the free filter they give is next to useless, so cannot even consider it.

Thats true, but you can always offset the FOC filter for a lower price or for a more decent filter.

To me the main purpose of filter is to protect my lens, so any filter with glass will do the job. ;)

However, I did get a B+W for my 17-70. :bsmilie:
