Jiuzhaigou is well developed. I covered the place without any travel agency. Within Jiuzhaigou, there is a free shutter bus service that you can take thru out the day to all designated point of interests.

I just helped a friend in Singapore obtains a quotation for a 10 days trip private trip from a Chinese friend who run a travel agency in Chengdu. My friend in Chengdu quoted 4328RMB/pax for 4 pax. Travel date is on 23 Oct. Area cover include Jiuzhaigou, Huanglong, Daocheng, Yading and Yellow River.

Hope that helps.

the shuttle bus service is not free. it is 90 Yuan for the bus and 220 yuan for the entrance fee to Jiuzhaigou (170 yuan if you have a international student card). after you pay for the shuttle bus service while getting the ticket, you are free to take the bus as many times as you want. You can trying asking for the ticket without paying for the bus service and then walk the first stretch of the park and try hopping on the bus later. They don check for the bus ticket actually, so you can try your luck.

You can just do jiu zhai gou on your own without any agency. take note that other that the park's own shuttle bus, no other transport is allowed in the jiu zhai gou park. so even if you arrange for a guide and a car, all they can do is drive you to the entrance of the park and the car will wait for you outside the park. the guide can go with you, but then, you can easily do that on your own, since there are maps in abundance and there are proper walking routes the whole way. It is not that difficult to catch a bus from chengdu to jiu zhai gou. almost all the hostels or hotels can also arrange for a tour or a private car to jiu zhai gou where you can also stop along the way to take photos as and when you want.

I went with SA tour previously, the itinerary was good and we stayed in jiuzhai paradise(best hotel in jzg), the only sour note was our group was late for the return(the local guide delayed us at the foot massage palour, probably havent hit he commision quotas), so 5 persons kena bump off the plane :)

I have seen westerners with zero knowledge of Chinese make their way to all those places mentioned on their own. Why would anyone need a travel agent? If departing from Chengdu, just hire an MPV with driver.

if going DIY, remember to space out the trip a bit, the flights to the JZG airport face frequent delays and sometimes even cancellations.

Hi,

I am repeating this thread started by Sweeper in August last year by asking anyone planning for a photographic travel trip to Sichuan Dao Cheng, YaDing and the areas in June this year. So far I have one friend is firm to commit and looking for 2 or more to go.

Please PM me or we can discuss any plan you may have. Yes, the plan is to book the local (China/Sichuan) tour company and usually they will arrange a private small group and number of travelers is 4 to 8 depending the type of vehicle they use.

Thanks in advance :).
