you sure? -.- how come i never see the shop before? i stay just beside there only :bsmilie:

when they cost more than $1 each, they're called Bettas (short for Betta Splendens)
if $1 or less, its fighting fish. haha

anyways, there's a shop at sun plaza that specializes in bettas. also another one at clementi.

there's a local betta forum called sgbettas.com (what else?) you could probably find out more there.

good luck keeping these wonderful fishes!

3-5 mins walk from clementi mrt is blk 328. this block has a few aquarium shops that sells siamese fighting fish. 1 of the shop even has a sign which says "24 hrs" but i dont know if it really stays open for 24 hrs. it seems that this blk is "famous" for aquarium fishes and i do know of ppl from all over sg patronise it. business seems good for all the aquarium shops in this blk.

For very good quality Bettas, go to Straits aquarium, very beautiful but be prepared to pay something like $30-$50 per fish.

Cool - I am impressed with the apt of your definition. Any differentiation for Half-moon and Full moon... or Crown Betta? Haaa:sweatsm:

to threadstarter simon king:

for the first pic u posted, that is just a normal fighting fish which u can easily get at $10+- but for the 2nd pic, u need to go to straits aquarium. the 2nd betta is not any dog or cat strain....

straits aquarium is a local breeder for fighting fish and they do a lot a lot of cross breed etc. and they have won literally tonnes of awards worldwide for the species they produce... that said, of course their bettas are nice and pricey..

heres their website
http://www.straitsaquariums.com/index.htm

address:
No. 31, Seletar West Farmway 1. Singapore 798129.
try to go by car, its easier...
if i remember correctly, there is a bus u can take too, and walk a bit, but i forgot the bus no.

There are home breeders who can attain high standards as well. But they are not easy to maintain, esp those crowntails or half moons (>170 degrees of the tail spread is required to be recognised as a half moon.

Check out the local fish keeping forums, there are some around who specialise in bettas. But do note that there are more than just Betta splendens, there are lots of other bettas which can be captivating as well. ;)

my favourite ! used to breed them ...
get from local breeders at http://www.arofanatics.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=29

#1 is a veiltail. can get it at less than $2
#2 is a marble. Finnage can consider super delta iirc

straits aquarium is also a good place to get bettas but best is u drive or ride

Katong area has a few betas shops. If you live in the East, try those first. One of them is near the laksa stall below the overhead bridge. The other is across the bridge in an old shopping complex. Beta lovers would take time to care for the breed. Frequent water change is very important and so is the quality of the feed.

I am not too much of a beta person though i had kept fresh water fishes since young.

Good luck to your search ya.

nope....

i used to keep a HDB ala Duxton style those 2 dollar plastic fish tank behind my bed....mum and me change water until cry :(

so one fine day, i decided, enuf is enuf, and and plonked all the thousands of fries into this large fish tank (can put arowana) and put a gentle pump, my then "KC MOJO JUICE" (do a search for that too that i used to sell)

when it grew up to a little bigger, i sold the fries..... almost sold all......

i made quite a lil amount and gave my KC pair to a close friend of mine who had no intention to breed....

now pokgai coz used the amount and put into photography lor :( .... and the occasional red wines :D

:bsmilie:

used to keep rushing down to AMK CC to get daphnia ....dirty and stinks like hell, and easy to cause bloating....so best is rinse it out like crazy......(i even went to the extent of putting some of the yellow powder (i think its a sulphur derivative) and rinse it out).

the small betta fries lurve it and on a daphnia + tubifex (again clean like crazy!) diet, the fish grows extremely strong.

u guys won't believe this...but u can ask my mum/brother

my KC betta used to swim in part evian/gerolsteiner (NON GASSY VERSION) part Overnight water.

even better life than me :(

how come i had all these time leh? .... i'm too energetic lar.....come back from sickening and stressful lab work, must play around with the fishy to temp forget the sorrows :( )

haiz..thats the problem...

i was looking for help after awhile with my "KC MOJO juice business" coz the orders came in too much to handle liao.

then nobody thot will work out...... James from the tampines (i think) white aquariam issit? (can't remember liao) was thinking of striking a business deal together, but the price quoted that they are willing to buy is short of ridiculous....... so ended up a nice & extremely experienced betta breeder (known as uncle foong, again look it up at arofanatics) helped me deliver. everytime i wanted to pay him for the petrol and time from the sale of the bottles of "juice extract", he refused to take....

think finally, orders was too much that i couldn't keep it up to meet demand....so i passed uncle foong the last batch of juice to deliver and told him to keep the whole amount after that......still he insisted on returning the $$$, but i didn't arrange to meet up... .... :D

Hey hey seems like quite a few betta lovers here!
