Shutter speed = 1 Year!

Found this interesting site. This German photographer built his own camera, mounted the camera on a Berlin construction site, set the camera shutter speed = 1 year and took this photo. Apparently the architech likes his photo very much.

The exposure is from 1999 to 2000. :eek:
The photo was taken before/during/after the construction.
 

how the camera manages to stay at a spot for that long without anyone knocking into it, rain etc, makes me wonder...
 

I don't think he left the shutter open for 1 year. More of like 12-20 staggered exposures.
 

He really set the the shutter to 1 year. He is a specialist in that field and sells the photos to the architect for a very high sum. The architect needs this kind of photos to see the construction site before/during/after.
 

I think the diagonal streaks are the sunlight rays, created when the lens/shutter was open for 1 year. :cool:
