XXXD series - 40,000 shutter count.
XXD series - 100,000 shutter count.
XD series - 200,000 or 300,000 shutter count.

CSC mentioned that the camera shutter unit can last 10-20 % before it start having problems, ie. underexposed photos..

...where do u get such info from

then after that count ..what happens...cannot be used already or what

www.photonotes.org and www.the-digital-picture.com

after that count, the shutter unit may start having problems. fm CSC, your camera may not work when the shutter unit died. shutter curtains cannot open, so u cant take pictures.

Curious, does anyone knows what are max shutter counts for Nikon cameras ? D300 listed in the specification as 150K, what about models like D80 and does it follows similar ones for Canon as listed in the above thread DX, DXXX, DXX ?

add on a few lines. the shutter spec is just a guideline, it doesnt mean your shutter wont fail before that rated number.

as for a Nikon request on a Canon subforum.. abit OT but here goes. some marketing claims, but the figures are there.
D200 (page 5) - http://www.nikonimaging.com/global/products/digitalcamera/slr/d200/pdf/D200_24p.pdf
D2X (page 3) - http://www.nikonimaging.com/global/products/digitalcamera/slr/d2xs/pdf/D2xs_16p.pdf
D300 (page 10) - http://chsv.nikonimaging.com/global/products/digitalcamera/slr/d300/pdf/d300_28p.pdf
D3 (page 14) - http://chsv.nikonimaging.com/global/products/digitalcamera/slr/d3/pdf/d3_40p.pdf

AFAIK, there is no known spec/claim written for D80.
edit:
here is a link of some D80 Users claim of shutter usage.. (there are other cameras, of various makes) in the list there too.

I guess the next qn is how to check you current shutter count!

pay $ at CSC, and they will tell you.
no other method available for Canon.

so u mean at the customer service centre they will tell u wat to do.

as for other cameras..u mean they got other methods...izizit either than Canon

Hi pple

i understand that the shutter count is like the life span of the dslr.

however i would like to know for the individuals camera.... how long can they last...

then need servicing ....pls revert

thanks

how long is the life span of yourself?
simply put, each different cam (not even model) have different "life span"

on tested average, i can only say 50k for the lower end and 150-300k for the higher end

I do not think shutter count is the life span of dslr since it can be easily replaced at a reasonable cost as previously discussed in a thread.

This link will provide you with users' inputs on their camera shutter life -> http://olegkikin.com/shutterlife/

Hope this helps. :)

very long if not abused. shutter unit is a couple hundred bucks

many cameras able to use for many years, some people still using 10D, or D100.

but most people under utilize the cameras.
buy or upgrade to new camera before the existing camera brake down.

so don't worry.

Another method is to let your file name run continous.

Or you can go here : Shutter count software

But this is for EOS-1D, EOS-1Ds, EOS-1D Mark II, EOS-1D Mark II N and EOS-1Ds Mark II
