Should I change a DC?

Hi, would like to seek some advise from the experts here..

I'm currently owning a Panasonic TZ7 for about a year and was thinking of changing another camera. Was actually looking at the below 2 digital camera. I will wan to get a compact one rather then those prosumer camera.

Schneider is the same company that makes B+W filters. Very good optics company. Thing is with all these co-branding in consumer cameras, it is usually the case where only the lens design is by the 'famous' brand, manufacturer of the lens itself is still the camera brand (samsung). Examples: Carl Zeiss 'lens' in Sony, Leica 'lens' in Panasonic Lumix.

sounds like you're going after compact cameras with large zoom ranges.
Assuming that the '1x' zoom is a normal view on 35mm camera (I think that's a safe assumption), the '14 or 15x zoom' would be something like 400+mm in 35mm-camera terms.. That's a heck of a long reach... If you look through the viewfinder or LCD, your image is gonna be moving all over the place. Hehehehe so a tripod or at least a monopod should be a necessity. But since you insist on a compact camera, I assume small size is important.

so... you're actually faced with a dilemma... Good luck!

TZ7 has long zoom range as well (12x). And for the size wise, I think it is pretty similar. I am not sure what are you looking for by buying other camera. Unless if you really need additional 2x or 3x zoom.

I own TZ7 myself. It serves me very well.

1x zoom = prime lens. Nothing to zoom.
Zoom factor = maximum focal length / minimum focal length. 10x zoom can be 30-300mm (35mm equivalent) or 20-200, or 25-250 ... The 'normal view' is 50mm on 35mm format.

no no.. I mean they call it 10 x zoom (i'm referring to prosumer), but because I'm not familiar with the model, I don't know what the shortest focal length is in 35mm equiv.

e.g. 35-350mm (equiv) is 10x, but if widest is 28mm, then longest is only 280mm... I'm just trying to guesstimate the longest focal length for those 2 models, to make my point about it being difficult to hand-hold.

edit: I realised i had inadvertently misused the term 'normal'... hehehe
