shot at "lock" position for canon lens

my kit lens is a 18-200mm lens.

Question: can i shot at the "lock" position (for this the angle is 18mm because it only able to "lock" at this range); will it damage any mechinacal part?

its just a preventive mechanism to keep the lens from self-extending when its held downwards.. same effect as to hold it "locked" at 18mm with your hands..
