Hi all, im looking for shops (any) in singapore that actually buys lens or any other camera stuff. Im selling my 18-55mm VR lens but cant find any shop that wants to buy 2nd handed. I know its easy to sell it online. But i prefer to sell and get cash fast.

Any shops to recommend? thanks.

P & G Photography Center @ Adelphi, that shop sells and buys 2nd lens. can give you quotation for free i think. P & G Photographic Centre Tel: 6837 0697

A stock kit lens? Good luck. And you'll get waaaaaay below the forumprice for it.

If they even want it in the first place.... They might offer around $50 for it.

Ouch! $50 bucks? That is why I never wanted to start it off with a full kit... Unless of course I'm convinced that the kit lens will be good enough for me (opinion will differ from person to person). And I don't like the hassle of selling off the kit lens or any other lens that I have (again, opinions will differ)...

That's business. You want a middleman to sell your lens off, he's got to earn a decent amount. You wanna get a better price, sell if off yourself. You decide if it's worth the hassle.

Please don't get me wrong, I'm not complaining about the business end of it. More of the idea how much the kit lens is worth when you don't want it anymore... ;)

thanks for the place. Here's the thing. Weather if its kit lens or not. the Lens is still worth money. $50 is day-light robbery. at Least $200 because the retail price is about $429 right. i bought the body kit lens for 1299 but even if i just got the body, its gonna cost about $899 right?
i can even say that its NOT a sotck kit lens. As there is no difference to it.

Not much! But then again, it's not much of a loss because it was inexpensive to begin with :)
Try not to think of it in relative terms (50% of original price?), but in absolute terms (actual dollar value loss) and it probably won't seem so bad.

if i were you i would keep the kit lens. it's not worth selling it. keep it as a back up lens or a lens u can abuse it.

im selling it because i can invest on buying the 18-200mm VR II. as the money can minimize my budget, why not? cheapest and maybe reliable is at main entrance of Lucky Plaza, selling at $1180.
So how much would i get if i sell to the 2nd-hand shop? maybe $170? i only got it for 3 months and the condition is excellent.

Your best bet to get the best price is by selling it here at the B&S section. You have to understand that these shops have to pay for shop rental, so they would of course offer less. If they buy at the "market price" for a 2nd hand lens, how are they going to make any profit?

Here are some ways you can try...
1. Sell in the CS B&S section.
2. Sell on consignment at one of these shops, e.g. CamX, TCW, P&G, etc. They will earn a certain % from your selling price. Take it like your paying rental for the space on their shelf.
3. Do a trade-in with a shop for the 18-200 you want. One of my fren went to TCW to trade in a 450D for a D90.

Man, I don't want to be the one to burst your bubble -- if you wanna know what the shops will offer you, you'll have to ask them. But do check out what the lens is going for in B&S.
BTW, I believe the $429 you mentioned earlier was Nikon's list price, very little to do with street price.
But be prepared to be disappointed -- there isn't much demand for these lenses. I'd imagine that more people will be upgrading FROM this lens to something else.
Good luck!

Oh, Gerald has some good suggestions. If you want to get the most for your lens, sell on B&S. Shops will ALWAYS offer you less (they have to make money, rite?). You get a bit more from the shops if you sell on consignment (still less than a direct sale), but they pay you only when the lens is sold. If you can get a trade-in, you may get the best deal of all :)

this is because you are looking at percentage value loss, i suppose.

nikon d60 with kit and without kit (vr version) price difference: $150ish

refer to: http://www.clubsnap.com/forums/showthread.php?t=458315

nikon 35mm f/1.8: http://www.clubsnap.com/forums/showthread.php?t=696960 asking for $270.

brand new price: $380 (hasn't changed much since mar 09)

assuming that you sell at $50.. both loss, about $100.

then you have people trying to sell for $200, $180:

http://www.clubsnap.com/forums/showthread.php?t=678423&highlight=18-55mm

you have to remember that the VR kit lens sells individually for $300+.

think threadstarter sell in BnS better.. :bsmilie:

u can try camera workshop. but you will prob end up getting less than than what you can get for in b&s.

dude u seem to overestimate the value of your kit lens. in that aspect nikon marketing has been successful in making u believe the kit lens is worth that much.

keep the lens. sometimes you never know when you will need it.

of course if you are so adamant about getting a higher price, go and check it out for yourself. you asked for advice here and we are giving it to you and you dont seem to be able to accept the reality of it.

Accept reality? listen DUDE, im here to get information and advice from the people here. I'll try all the advices given here. Like going P&G to see the trade-in price, put up my lens for sale in B&S (DONE THAT) etc etc. Why do you think im asking so much questions? just because of that, doesnt mean i'm not facing reality. I'm merely asking more information and suggestions from different people. I will keep in mind about weather to keep or not. Depends on the trade-in offer.
Thanks to all those who replied and Cheers.

IMO you'll always get a lower price if you sell it to a shop, rather than selling it on BnS, but you can ask the price there and use it as a guideline of some sort for when you sell it on BnS. But for that particular lens (kit lens), I think you should expect to be disappointed with the price since there's very very little demand for 18-55 kit lenses. I mean, think about it, why would people want to buy a kit lens separately?

But you cant tell the difference between kit lens or normal retail lens. Or CAN you? no idea haha. but mine is not the $179 lens. its the $429 lens. There's 2 different 18-55mm lens right? hmm...

You are right to say that you cannot tell the difference between a kit lens (lens with body) or if you bought it retail (lens alone). However, there are fewer people who would go out and buy retail a lens that is bundled as a kit with a camera body.

Let me give you some examples of the prices of kit lenses... I'm taking the data from an official Nikon website:

18-105mm VR lens - USD$399.95
http://www.nikonusa.com/Find-Your-N...-S-DX-NIKKOR-18-105mm-f%2F3.5-5.6G-ED-VR.html

18-55mm VR lens - USD$199.95
http://www.nikonusa.com/Find-Your-N...6/AF-S-DX-NIKKOR-18-55mm-f%2F3.5-5.6G-VR.html

18-55mm II non-VR lens - USD$119.95
http://www.nikonusa.com/Find-Your-N...X-Zoom-NIKKOR-18-55mm-f%2F3.5-5.6G-ED-II.html

18-70mm lens - USD$459.95
http://www.nikonusa.com/Find-Your-N...X-Zoom-NIKKOR-18-70mm-f%2F3.5-4.5G-IF-ED.html

If you take some time and do a search of the B&S section, you will see the difference in price.
