Hi, was thinking of shooting e SIN '09 tom with my new bought 2nd hand tamron 17-50 F2.8. I using alpha system so wonder if its ok to shoot indoor w/o flash at F2.8 n ISO 800 plus the body IS system. The WB setting for there is fluroscent lighting right? Appreciate all advice.

ISO 400 or 800 *might* be enough. We can't tell what the lighting strength is or what shutter speed you'll get. As always though, it's best to bring a flash just in case, or try to see if your pop-up flash will be enough.

use flash if u have... ur setting should be alright i think...

It's always good to use a flash for fill-in. This will bring out the subject better during an event shoot. Also, with a flash, your chance of obtaining a sharp image is higher, as the flash will be able to prevent your subject from having motion blur.

ya, gg get one. I dun have flash cos usually shoot outdoors..... guess make do with pop up flash tom.

I was just there yesterday. ISO 1600 at f2.2-2.5 gave me speeds of 1/80 on average. Without flash. Borrowed a friend's flash later and really appreciated the fill-in.

With flash, 800 should do it.

used my 50mm F1.8 shooting at F2 without flash. ISO 1000 give me shutter speed around 1/50 - 1/80. Most of the pic cannot make it and some are very noisy. 50mm is kind of too short and i guess a flash is definitely needed in this kind of indoor event. It does help by shooting RAW. At least you can make some adjustment

I shot SIN with primes too, @ appx f/1.8-2.0... decent result w/o flash. But fill-in would be good of cox... using the tamron 17-50 f/2.8, best is use flash :)

Had tried tamron 17-50 f/2.8 @ISO1600 w/o flash ( thanks for Mike's suggestion ), the result are quite encouraging. :)

Depends on your lens. I was using a 28mm 1.8 on crop and had to stand right in front to take this. Forgive the sloppy pictures though, straight out of camera:bsmilie:

Have seen great shots with 85F1.8. Actually depends on how you take it.

Noise is unavoidable, esp if you are using CCD sensor (for dslr). You need to learn to work with it, and find way to your advantage.

You need flash with big soft box... :bsmilie: better still, bring strobes... This year no one bringing?
