Hi all

When will you decide to use USM or Sharpen tool? USM for portraiture and Sharpen for Cityscape?

What normally are the values you enter for USM? The threshold, value and radius.

How do you know you've oversharpened a picture?

USM can do everything that "Sharpen" can and more.

Depends on the size of the image, sharpness of the image and the size and intended use of your output. You should see for yourself the effects, every image is different.

How do you know you've oversharpened a picture?

When you start seeing halos or outlines over details or simply when it no longer looks natural.

does not matter which u do 1st..
i usually do cropping last.

Sharpening should be left to the last step.

If you're printing large prints, more sharpening is needed. Oversharpening occurs if you see a big difference before and after sharpening

Sharpening can also be performed before any manipulation to pull out details before you work on the image but final output sharpening should always be performed after any resizing.

With cropping it is of less relevance.

If its regarding to sharpening for the last step, then its because most forms of resizing involve resampling and filtering which causes blurring. Sharpening after resizing is always desired to restore the details.
