Met a fair number of Judy's in the last 2 months . They are always lurking in the shade and taking them handheld with sufficient lighting and DOF has always been a challege .

Here are some of my better efforts.

Thanks for viewing!

Comments and ways to improve the shots are most welcome.

i really like the first one, it's damn beautiful... maybe because of the colour and contrast and simplicity. the eyes of the butterfly looks like some glowing jade

Nicely done Bluesteel.

Hi,

Sorry for my ignorance, but how do you distinguish a male from a female?

Ohh ... male ones have more pinkish tips?

you compare the patterns/colouration on the underside or from the topside. colouration varies between sexes.

I think the white patch is the key in this case.

Wish I have them in my HD, Bluesteel.

Do you sell them? (just kidding)

Wow, lovely shots of such a beautiful butterfly, I like the different colors of the background which you managed to get. My personal pick is no. 3. Good job!

The males of this species have a pair of stripes on the underside of the forewings. The females have a fuzzy white patch.
Thanks so much for this interesting piece of information! I've always wondered how to differentiate between the different sexes of the butterfly, they look almost alike to the naked eye!

Very nice Butt shots. Love the first 2 cos the glowing eyes are more obvious.

Nice catch and beautiful butterflies.
