Just came back from the hospital. This morning, while my sis was there, the Doc came and my sis asked him why the tests not done yesterday as promised and my mom's condition. Doc says test not done due to my mom's condition and will be done today. Cut story short, test was done and not that serious but tomorrow will need to carry out another test, to scan the colon. So dunno how many more test needed. In 3 days there my mom only had a bowl of porridge for lunch. She had 3 packets of Blood transfused. She looks OK. She was referred there after having her annual medical checks at our family clinic. Suspect stomach Ulcer and losing blood due to internal bleeding from the Ulcer.

This afternoon, when I was there I notice that the packet of blood remains the same volume for quite sometime so I asked the nurse to check. I think the tube blocked or what and they later replace another set. So if I don't notice it, God knows if they ever found out. My mom says the packed hooked up almost 3 hours ago.

Oh.. THANKS to all who had shown concerned. My mom cant be warded at B2. B2 and below only for Resident/Citizen.

My mom (73 this year) was too old to buy another insurance after her initial insurance with Hong Leong was cheated by the Agent, together with my daughter's insurance.

In Malaysia, I was told only need RM1 for registration and if ordinary treatment, don't need to pay any more $$. Childbirth only RM21 inclusive of free post natal care for their Citizen.

My only hope was for my Mom to recover soon and the cause detected. Tomorrow will be a better day.

I wish for your mother health and recovery. Hope everything be fine for your family soon.

To the TS: I hope everything is well and nothing serious happened.

To the rest: Question from a non-citizen/PR as well about SG's healthcare.

What kind of coverage do I need just to ensure that the medical bills when admitted to a hospital is minimized? Any particular medical insurance I should be looking into? In addition, will such coverage require individual applications for my spouse and kid?

Thanks a lot.

Have faith that she will recover soon. She would need all the support from the family since the elderly never like to go to a hospital and be all alone. The local govt hospital has a very good team of specialists and their judgement/recommendations are often from a non profit angle compared to private hospitals.

If you can, ask hospital to work out an installment plan for you to pay over a period. I am not sure what it may entail, but at least it may be alot easier than paying all upfront.

Whether they use students or professional nurse is not really a choice. But do not be afraid to question them. For eg, there was a hospital here that forgot to switch on the oxygen for over 24hrs and the mask was on the patient. The family members started to ask the nurse why the patient had been struggling and the nurse quickly switch it on and slipped away from the room. There were also drugs stolen from the patient and the drugs were not administered though signed out by an indian nurse. This was one of top hospitals in SEA btw. The senior nurse (sister) became defensive until i challenged her the number of witnesses from the family who saw the whole thing in the 24hr watch everyday. I had to meet with the director to give them a wake up call. But i refused to identify the culprit who stole drugs as i told the director i saw them as a team with a rotten egg. Professional nurses do not mean much as they do go thru motion at times. The bill size came up about half a mil. And when the patient was checking out, but had to be transported, the itchy hand ambulance newbie played with the buttons and made the patient fell from upright sitting position to flat in a flip of a switch. He looked and smiled at me. I told him if his mistake would cause the patient to come back, he would have to sponsor the bill of another xxxk. It was that bad.

So, be agile, take turn to look after your mom. An extra pair of limbs and eyes do make a huge difference in creating better comfort and assurance.

And, do take care of yourself (and your family members there) there as your health is also just as important.

hope your mom recovers soon. my dad was in hospital quite frequently too, luckily my medisave covered it and he chose to stay in C class ward and is a sgporean, so it turned out to be quite manageable.

Thanks everyone. My other sisters are watching over her in the morning as they live nearby. I will be watching her in the afternoons. My mom just need some company to pass through the day. The bill will still be manageable for me if it don't get much higher. I still have some reserve put aside for caring for my mom.

You can a AIA Gold Prestige healthshield with Gold Prestige Essential rider or AIVA healthshield with a rider to cover the deductibles and co-insurance to cover complete medical expenses.

You do not need to pay a single cents with those mentioned in the policy. Stuff like room and board charges, operation and deductibles etc..

:D

cs discussions always seem to head that way, don't they?

get used to it :)

It will lead to all kinds of issues under the sun. Fortunately there are the CS administrators here to stop OT and angsty people. I got flamed once when i merely mentioned in an MLM thread that there are black sheep in every industry, we should still keep an open mind in general as sometimes it's the practioners, not the practice. Or did i get slammed cos i mentioned i consume MLM products? :dunno:

Anyway, expensive or not, SG medical services is still better than NHS. Have u experienced the :thumbsd: of NHS yet? Take good care of yourself over there ya.

Ulcer Problem? Its like these one, when we're old all kinds of problem comes up.

I think a good balanced diet of fruits, veggies and high fibre stuff would be good. Cut down on all those fatty & fried stuff to like.... once a year?

Too bad you can't ward her in B2. It is the same as B1 except there is no aircon and, of course, much cheaper.

May your mom recover soon.

I wish your mom all the best. Hope she'll have a speedy recovery. Take care of yourself too, so you can have the strength to take care of her.

The title of this thread is quite misleading, SGH did not take your bonus away, it's money that needs to be paid for medical care. Queries can always be clarified at any point in time with the nurses or doctors, you can always insist on an answer. If your mum has internal bleeding, your mum's condition needs to be stabilised, anyone can die from internal bleeding, be prepared to stay in the hospital for up to 6 days. She will probably have to undergo scans in the stomach and large intestines, as well as in the small intestines. ALL of the scans will be very uncomfortable and will be expensive. Don't even think about eating if the scans are required.

In short, while I sympathise for you, I feel that you have deliberately left out a lot of deatils that would have justified the actions of the hospital.

Its B1 ward. Stated was $235.40 per day normal. WEF 1st July.

$$ is secondary but just dont like the service there. There is totally no connection between the staffs. Most of them attachment Students doing the job but are they competence????

Hopefully they can tell me what's wrong by today. This morning only then they start their diagnostic. Wanted to load the photo of the bill but CS gallery down.

WHy not just change hospital after the first day?

Well Parchiao, suggest we give TS a break.

Maybe TS rephrase the title wrongly.

He and his family have been taking turn looking after their mom.
The kind of sad/stress and low feeling already enough for him to handle.

Hi DeSwitch

Both my parents are 70 years old, and I can understand your feeling and concern.

Frankly speaking, all of us here envy and salute you that you are taking good care of your aging parents.
Believe it or not, but good things do come to people who do good to their parents. :)

I sincerely pray your mom have a speedy recovery.

I am speaking from the point of being a patient who was in a similar situation, but I was luckier as I was still young.
