Hi all, to get a piece of gray card at $20odd doesnt make sense to me.

Wondering how u guys set ur white balance? Is there anything paper that can replace the 18% density gray card?

Can pls share some ideas. Thx.

white balance only think can use a good name card.
the 18% can't remember still relevant for digital, as opposed to a spot meter...

as malkw advised and i found it works, try to get A4 lecture notes, where usually there is a grey colour card at the end, i tried and it worked perfectly for me. ;)

the actual 18% is a little bit darker than that

 qns

how do u use a card white or gray to set the white balance?

:dunno:

the grey is to set the colour cast, the 18% is to do a exposure metering.

erm......I mean how to make use of it to set on my cam?

Im still new to photography...

digicam? just need the colour cast bit... in fact auto white balance works by summing up the dominant colour bas and setting that to white, hence sometimes ur night shot of orchard comes out whitish instead of the nice yellow...
just put the card tilt up to face ur cam then AEL...
erm doesn't work for all cases, esp if u have some bright object far away... just use the card to do a Manual/Custom WB, let the cam do the metering..

and like wat stevick said, it cost $20?

anyway are u selling equipments?

:dunno:

which shop in peninsular plaza do you recommend?

need to get:

1. UV Filter
2. Polarised Filter
3. Lens Hood
4. Flash
5. Omni Bounce

Plan to go there later, what time do they close?

think CP I guess.. unless ur flash is cheap flash then try fotoguide or TCW (across the road)
fotoguide a few dollars more usually than CP.. but no matter what u do, DUN LOOK LIKE A TOURIST!
