Hi guys, a newbie question. How do i set ISO to 100 or 25600 on my pentax Kr? Seems like it is between 200 - 12800 when in auto. Do i need to adjust the high-ISO NR?
tks tks...

the answer is in your manual...

here's some spoonfeeding:

1) turn on cam
2) press menu button
3) press right 9 times, or look for the big C with the number 1
4) look for number 3 on that page, it's called EXPANDED SENSITIVITY
5) set it to 2, or ON

you're welcome, and next time, play with your camera more. or read the manual.

OT: Why did Pentax decide to default smallest ISO to 200? Is there some disadvantage to using 100?

base iso of the k-r sensor is iso200.

as to why there are different base iso, i don't know. the d3 of nikon also has base iso200.

the old k100d also had base iso200.

essentially, what is done to achieve iso100, is the camera exposes and then dials down the exposure. i know doing this loses some headroom in the headlights, based on what happens when you set iso 50 for canon 5d (base iso100), and that makes sense... but so far the measurable DR of the k-r seems to be greater at iso100, don't know why - not a techie.
