What lens you need, depending what you are going to shoot.

D50 or 350D?

oh...landscaping n flowers...maybe macro..

Sigma 10-20 & Sigma 70-300 macro APO DG(something like that lah)...with your kit lens, you can use all the range, shoot all genre you want liao

no....cant...kit lens suck...only 18-55...shoot nthing.....
what budgetted macro lenses are good?....btw....why sim lime sell d50 for as low as 1100 whereas best n harvey norman sell at 1488??...is it safe to buy??

eh don look down on ur kit lens. its decent enough. if u want better range, get the D70s, or the minolta 5D with anti shake. good enough

You haven't use yet, how to know.

I still use ,my 18-55mm when I travel. Just drop a few stops good enough. Not that it gives you out of focus images, its just not as sharp as pro lens.

1100? do check the price...Lowest i asked was 1288 by MS when i bought 2 weeks ago. Anyway, the price harvey norman gives is list price, so if u buy outside, can expect it to be lower.

What is your budget ?

Some suggestions for the start..
D50 / D70s
Wide/Super Wide: Tokina 12-24mm f/4 DX or Sigma 10-20mm f4-5.6 or Tamron 11-18mm f4.5-5.6 SP DI or Tamron 17-35mm f2.8-4 SP
Midrange/walkaround: Nikkor AF-S 18-70mm f/3.5-4.5 ED DX or Nikkor AF-S 24-120mm f/3.5-5.6 IF-ED VR or Nikkor 24-85mm f/3.5-4.5G IF-ED or Tamron SP 28-75mm f/2.8 DI

err ... honestly i don't think you need a dslr to do all that ... sure a dslr is better in many aspects ... but seriously it's expensive, and still need to maintain ...

and judging from what u said ... maybe it'll be good if you do some research and learn the basics before spending close to 2k on camera gear that u'll probably use on 'P'rofessional mode of one of the 'scene' modes ... :S

another point ... just having a dslr/digicam doesn't make one a photog ... doesn't mean one doesn't have to learn the basics either ...

D50 +
Tokina 12-24 f/4 DX +
Nikkor AF-S 18-70 f/3.5-4.5 ED DX or Nikkor AF-S 24-120 f/3.5-5.6 IF-ED VR or Nikkor 24-85mm f/3.5-4.5G IF-ED or Tamron SP 28-75 f/2.8 DI +
Tamron SP DI 90mm Macro or Nikkor AF 60mm f/2.8D or Nikkor AF 105mm f/2.8D +

wahh 80-200/2.8 and 300/4 ?! ... tsk tsk ... might as well recommend the new d200, 18-200mm and a tamron 90mm macro ...

Lol.... :sticktong ...haha btw wads the max i should spend on an aveage lens?? ....nt more than 400??or what?:dunno:

what do u actualyl need? dont buy what u dont need. lately alot of people have been raving about the Sigma APO DG macro 70-300mm lens as being a superb budget lens. but does it mean u have to get it because everyone says its good? do u need 70-300mm?

here's hwat i suggest. don't get the D50, or the 350D.

get the KM 5D for around $1260. contact: The Oracle. he has sets for sale.

use the Kit lens 18-70mm. take advantage of the anti shake. buy a nice flash 5600HS. buy a lowepro toploader, UV filter, 2nd hand CPL, and a slik 330DX pro tripod. all this will cost you already around $2000. shoot with this first. don't look donw on any kit lens. they are definitely decent and usable.

if you want to upgrade to a constant f/2.8 ;lens later on, get the sigma 24-60 or tamron 28-75.

hi,
if this is your first SLR camera, i would advice you to buy only the kit lens to begin with (irrespective of camera brand) and start shooting. over a period of time you will realize that you need extra range at wide or tele ends. buy/sell your lenses once you know what your shooting preferences are. otherwise you will end up in a vicious circle of buying lenses and spending $$$.

no lens, even the nikon 18-55 is cr*p. bigger zoom range is not always better. y do you think primes exist?

anyways, i guess there have been many informative comments for you to think about... oh, and once you have bought whatever, keep shooting and posting :)

eh....for nikon...there's this thing called the trinity..u can run a search on it hahaha

;) ....k thanks guys...any way....my prefered pics would be on scenery n flowers(not those macro macro type)...but wad kind of lens can zoom like macro lens eg to see e bug yet no need that ex?!! ....kit lens cant zoom that much also....lastly KM 5D not bad is just the hand grip to protuding.....:sticktong
