i noticed in the BS corner, many pp asked for the lens serial number. just wondering, how do you interpret those numbers? is there a chart where i can compare their age to their numbers? use canon lens numbering system as i am currently looking at them. thanks.

If i'm not wrong, these numbers are according to their year of make, model, etc. and are classified under the manufacturer's codes.

not all lenses have codes that depict manufacturing date.

from what i know, most L lenses if not all, have manufacturing code.

seems like this link is the 'bible' for checking lens age. How accurate is the writeup? Does Canon endorses the report?

also helps if canon or other makers post serial numbers of problematic lenses or equipment mah..
