I think the dirty'window" is the actual situation and should be fine as we should
be portraying to others what we saw. I saw many of these stores when I was
there one winter night.

How do you get the picture so clean? I'm curious...and very interested to learn.

what do you mean by "clean"?

clean=the absence of noise....not grainy and all...

(Theme) Streets at night
(Gear) Nikon D50, Nikkor DX AF-S D 50mm F/1.8, B+W UV MRC
(Perspective) norm 10-50m tripod, EFL: 50mm x 1.5
(Light) night, WB auto, optimize image vivid
(Exposure) AP, spot focus, ISO 250, F/4, 1/30 sec, +0.7 EV
(Format) 12bit NEF 3008x2000, DPI 600, APSE Jpeg Q12 P5
(Editing) none

- Norm is what i refer to my normal standing position with relative horizontal perspective, i.e. not downwards on ground elements or upwards to a high building.

- 10-50m means the estimated distance from camera to the focal point

- EFL, my own invented term for effective focal length, x 1.5 due to nikon's partial-sized sensor

- tripod, is on gitzo G1058 and ballhead is manfrotto 190mf3

- spot focus means i put my cam as spot metering and the spot is the same with the focus point.

my iso is relatively low, and i think D50 is good at reducing noise too, maybe that's why.
will post a larger original size crop.
