oh, goodie..!! Goona get some flame for this..
I am a MU supporter, but have never liked Beckham. Until 4 years ago, after having subscribed to cable, i realised how small the football world was, at least in Asia.
Now people get to watch the Serie A, the Primera Liga and all the UEFA coverage, among the other dozens of world-wide coverage..and my conclusion? EPL is really, at the end of the day, when all is said and done, a Marketing wetdream.
Skills-wise, strategy-wise, most of the teams in the EPL cannot really compare to the Spanish League, but they get more air-play in Asia becuase of the vast amount of advertising dollars which position the EPL as a popular league.
So letting Becks go? WHO CARES..? Does he have the vision of a Zidane..? Or the finishing of a Ronaldo? Does he create opportunities, dribble past 3 defenders and score, makes the rest of the team looks good? no.
And the most ridiculous thing i have heard: Becks upset that he is being traded like "a piece of meat".
Come on, Mr "10M pounds/year" suddenly complain about the how he feels like an unappreciated piece of merchandising gimmick? When all this while, he had no qualms about appearing in the limilight for all the wierd stuff i.e ketchup hair, dreadlocks, speeding...you name it.
OK, OK, time to put on the flame cover on..

Oh well..
Beckham Beckham, for me, as a player, he is worth not more than 15 million pound. No doubt his freekicks are one of the best, like other guys have said, except that, nothing else. He can't beat defenders, he can't shoot on open field( some say he can only curl the ball, can't hit it straight), his leadership is so-so...
ahh...maybe his exuberance on the field and his hardworking nature?
For Beckham as a whole, he worth much higher than 30 million pound. Can you imagine the no. of merchandise he sells? That can easily hit millions and millions per year around the globe. Just based on that, his value is really - sky high.
Me...being a Arsenal supporter, i don't really think he is going to be a difference in Manu..so my vote? Who cares?

yes, you are right, at the end of the day, Becks, Man U are really good for merchandising, so much so people may have forgotten that there is a style football beyond the English long ball. Now it seems that Armani will be suiting them up? hehehe...one more advertising and sales gimmick.
By the way, can anyone remember a similar high-flying EPL player who went over to the Liga and was not heard of since? Will this be the same for Becks..? hehehe...

Haha...true. At these days, really is 'no money no talk'.
...so sad that a player of his calibre is sitting on the bench, when he was with the red shirt, he was running around defenders..
I still rate him (at his prime) to be better than Beckham.
who u all referring to ? izzit tat ex Liverpool Steve Mcmananam (sorry dunno how to spell) ... ???Originally posted by fruitybix
I really like him too, and yes, he is better than Beckham, no doubts about that..
