Hi i wan to look for some resources to read, any recommend self-help books on photography and business related books on photography that i can browse on??

I'm happy to see that you are turning to books to increase knowledge. A lot of people don't read enough these days and it is such a pity because one can really gain a lot by just reading. My expenditure on books is perhaps even more than camera gears on an on-going basis!

There're heaps of books on Photography. If you like to borrow books, almost all of the NLB branches will have something. The major bookshops like Kinokuniya and Borders will have a Photography section which are stocked with newer titles. Specialist bookshops like Riceball in Funan will have both books and DVDs. Online stores like Amazon.com carries hard to find titles locally, and half of my purchases are from Amazon. Of course the Net has plenty of resources but nothing beats flipping the pages of a good 'ol book from cover to cover.

Maybe you can let us know what kind of focus you're after, and I can point you to some really good ones... but sorry I don't have any recommendation on the business aspect of photography.

Rice ball at Funan level one, just opposite the Times, beside a money changer.

Indeed, Riceball is a great shop, just tell the person at the counter what kind of book you are interested in and what area of photography you are looking to improve in, and he will recommend you the most popular books in that field.

There are two types of books-

1) Technical - covering areas like lighting, exposure or everything in general - e.g those written by Michael Freeman or Scott Kelby.

2) Books on photographic vision - e.g Photographer's Eye by Michael Freeman, Within The Frame by David DuChemin.

I highly recommend you get a technical book first, preferably by Michael Freeman, and master various technical aspects like Manual exposure before you go about finding your vision. Master the tools, then expand your creativity. The 2nd type of books are for the advanced photographer who understands technical jargon already.

street photography - best way to improve is to actually look at other artists' work and understand their photographs. then go out, shoot and improve.
