Seek advice on upgrading d50 kit lens.

I like to shoot potraits,wedding, event. basicly like to shoot people
what do you mean by how do I shoot it?


70-300mm is underutillized because I am lazy to change ;p
that is why i am thinking of replacing my kit lens to a longer range.
wide enough and long enough to shoot in wedding/event.



more interested to the tokina ...f2.8 ;p
didn't know the price could be that high..

if you are lazy to change i recommand you DON GO for fast or f2.8 lens... those lens usually need you to keep changing unless you are able to run up and down to compose your shot. like using 50mm you will have to run all the way to the front in order to get the subject occupying a good amount of space in ur frame.

18-200 will be the best bet for laziness, but you will lose out alot in speed and quality (including lots of sharpness). and yes with the budget you stated, just get either the tamron or sigma and don think so much

upgrade? sure! Zeng your kit lens
go to Nikon and warn them to upgrade the AF motor, if not @ least lube it more.
then get them to change all element to ED and aspherical.
lastly. to get sharp lens.
use a grinder and Buar till e tip is sharp.

Let's be practical here. There's no 1 lens that's long, big aperture, and still small/light enough to carry around. Constant aperture lenses will not have a large focal length range, so you'll need to change lenses. Else if you don't wish to change lenses, you'll need to carry a few bodies.

I believe I was in the same plight as you, the best thing to do is to go shoot first, then evaluate what do you really need. Affordability is also very important.

My general feel is that you do not understand how range and aperture can affect your pic. When the range is too far apart, your pics will vignette when you shoot wide. That is why short range lens are expensive. Assuming that I am correct, for example an 18 - 200 range will vignette when you shoot wide. To me, your current configuration is good enough. Cover all ranges already. My poor self has only 18 - 50mm only. :embrass:

It made me clear about the reason why I started this thread which is asking recommendation of a lens whose range is longer than my kit lens and has a bigger aperture as well, enough to produce bokeh. and within the budget of mine.
hopefully you can give a suggestion.

as for aperture thingy...go try it yourself and see it for yourself....

and you dun have the budget to get that lens... 17-55 f2.8

To produce that effect, the range and the aperture will affect the depth. How to explain it? Can anyone help? I dun know how to explain

My general feel is that you do not understand how range and aperture can affect your pic. When the range is too far apart, your pics will vignette when you shoot wide. That is why short range lens are expensive. Assuming that I am correct, for example an 18 - 200 range will vignette when you shoot wide. To me, your current configuration is good enough. Please explain how vignette will occur when you shoot wide. Do you know what is vignette?
