Seagate 4GB and 8GB CF cards

Seagate has a special offer for their 4GB and 8GB CF cards.
Their website does not give an info on the read/write speeds.
Can anyone using any of these cards kindly advise about their speed?

Are these CF cards or Microdrives? I've got a phobia for Microdrives, have this impression that it's easy to spoil, especially when dropped.. Do you happen to know the prices?

$299 for 4GB and $499 for 8GB with a free card reader.

They advertised it as a CompactFlash Photo Drive. Since it is a microdrive, I would give it a miss given the number of problems esp with speed others have been reporting.

Doesn't seem too worth it for the 4GB disk, since a 4GB CF Card is only about $50 more.

CF or MD? I thought it was CF? Otherwise what is the big deal from Seagate... a 4GB MD has been around for some time already... but a more affordable 4GB CF hasn't though...

have some vague memory of a time when people used to buy mp3 players just to take out the 4gb or 5gb drives because it was cheaper than buying the drive itself...

yep, the ad calls them "CF" cos they fit into type II CF slots lah. but they are photo*drives*. dunno whether they scared consumers dunno what microdrives are, or cos they want to fool ppl into thinking these are solid state cards.

anyway, if anyone is still interested, the advertised prices aren't that great. sim lim should have cheaper...

Seagate does not make solid state cards. These are microdrives. Anyway I dun think microdrives are that bad. Afterall they have been used in MP3 players for quite awhile. The drives are supposed to be designed to withstand a tremendous amt of shock. Still a much cheaper solution if you need that kind of storage space. $299 for 4GB is probaby just the recommended retail price. I am sure it's much cheaper than that, probably below $250.

got it in the sitex show last nov.
buildwise, seems tough.

but can u wait 10mins for it to format on ur cam???
i can't, got a full refund($23x) from ATF(reseller of seagate in the show).
