SD cards Benchmarking.

I saw on the net there is a Sandisk Extreme III 1GB SD card. Rated at 133X. Tout to be the fastest SD card... Above Sandisk Ultra II. But the price there is almost S$200. Wondering is it available in Spore... By the way guys, any idea how much is the Sandisk Ultra II 1GB SD card here?
 

I've seen in at a shop in Sim Lim Square - quoted S$299.

Heard EastGear selling the SD card for S$235

And as promised.. here are the results for the KingMax platinum 1GB SD card's benchmark using the newer card reader. The results seems alot better, but still short of the 66x promised (perhaps the card reader is still the bottleneck).

Anyone else did a benchmark with the Kingmax Platinum card? I'm using a $33 USB 2.0HS card reader from A1pro this time round.

hmmm well this card was mine for $85. not exactly what i had in mind travelling across singapore for, but at least it's seems faster than the Kingmax card.. highest read/write speed for all cards so far... I wonder if there's some physical limitation that I've not noted..

I know for sure though, i only noticed marginal improvements... taking in tiff is faster than my old card by 2 seconds.. 6s as compared to 8..
talking about high speed shots is useless as my old card had no lag either after 4 5mp shots in a go.

ah well... at least it's only $85
 

Wow the A1pro cost $31? thought I brought only $19. Maybe HS. Notice that for all the test the speed gets faster in general as the file to be written gets bigger. Maybe the Kingmax was tested writting till it is full and the result averaged. Just those ang mo motorcycle, they can cruise easily at high speed but sucks at acceleration. Something that I thought. Anyway tks for sharing the results :thumbsup:
 

looks cool. is it a 1gb sd card? 85 is cheap.

i'm not sure if the card reader is still the bottleneck. The cardreader can be bottleneck at 45x .. and hence not showing the read max. But certainly I think the write speed for the kingmax is lower than expected.

Maybe I got ripped off. I bought the 20in1 one with 3 USB ports. Come with powersupply also.

notice that the speed of high speed card are not really that much different from normal cards. But instead they excel in certain area. Like donchua card delete real fast. Wonder is it because of card reader? If so that means its the same when using it on camera since the camera may be the limiting factor. Any one know anything about this?
 

I read abt Panasonic Pro High Speed 1gb (RP-SD01GB) & 512mb (RP-SD512) SD card. Wondering is it expensive... The ad put the speed as up to 20mb/s.

seems like the kingston elite is not as elite as i thought it was..
kingmax platinum is not exactly very speedy unless you are taking photos of 64mb size, but at least got high writespeed..
if anything, from the benchmarks seems like must avoid toshiba cards.. ultra slow write speeds (hey, our camera write more than read)

I just noticed my Xtri card has unbelievable delete speed.. seems too high to be true..

Anyway, bought my Magu SD card for $128. Good price for a high-speed 1GB SD card. Just that its not popular and nobody knows its reliability yet. Warranty is labelled to be life-time. But who knows how well this is honoured? :dunno:
 

Here's some info for those who want to buy a SD-CF adaptor (to use SD card on a camera that accepts CF only). Speed dropped by almost half in my case, using a brandless adaptor which converts to CF Type II, and cost about $35.

Your Kingmax Platinum 66x 1gb SD card results is very different from mine.
I am wondering now how accurate is this benchmarking going to be.

It would appear to me that the reader or CPU speed would play a somewhat important role. Look at my results (in an earlier post). I've achieve higher read speeds compared to your result, but lower write, or delete speed. The endurance benchmark also differs from your quite a bit.
