Hi,

I just bought a Canon 550D 3 days ago. I was looking for a good screen protector when i bought my 550D but the sales man tell me that the free screen protector which he gave me is better than those hard screen protector. That is because when removing the hard screen protector, it might damage the LCD screen. Is it true? because the screen protector which he gave me was like those HP one. And he said for Nikon the screen protector is clip on type whereas Canon on is adhesive type. Therefore, it might damage the screen. Fellow Seniors, please enlighten me.

Thanks a lot.

not true lah! those clip on type is much better IMO. you can search on the forum on screen protectors!

try using martin fields!

When we use the hard screen protector, we will leave the clip on screen cover in the box and not use it. The clip on screen cover is mostly useful when storing your camera. If you just use that all the time, sand or dirt can get in between your LCD and the clip on cover, and when not careful, will cause scratches on your LCD screen.

That said, my brother's D90 dropped, and the hard screen protector (not clip on, but the stick on one) was cracked. When we removed it, the LCD was totally fine. I replaced another hard screen protector in its place.

So it is up to you what you want on your camera. Don't just listen to sales people.

Oh.. icic. Thanks a lot. for all your super fast response. right now i am looking at GGS and Hercules LCD Protectors which the mass sales section have. The martin fields screen protector, may i know which shop sales? Is there any difference between the 3 types of hard screen protectors or is just like personal preference ?

i am using the hercules on my 50d. the back LCD is nice with the protector, but one thing i dont like is the protector place on the top digital lcd. the top lcd is sort of curve, so the corner of my protector is "floating".

shouldnt be a problem on 550d.

am also using the Hercules for my 550D , not too bad .Fit nicely on the LCD and covers the whole area . like the antiglare when shooting during sunlight

For me I would just get both types. Double protection =)

Got my 550 yesterday also. Hercules sounds good hehe

I used also the GGS but it covers the Canon logo below:(
