SB700 announced - and it's better than my SB900 in terms of functionality. Just look at the dials on the left and right of screen. ARGH!

Too bad it lacks a PC connector

Nonetheless I think I'm going to get one ;p

not able to support external battery pack is a problem to me.

I own both SB800 and SB900 and i love it when I can unplug and change over the battery pack cable from one flash to another, whenever one flash overheats or ran out of juice.

You're not the first one to feel this way. *sigh* It's the UI that's vastly superior. Physical switches FTW.

weegk, it's not really *better* in terms of pro support (no PC connector, no external battery pack support, lower GN), but for many (and I do mean many) the SB700 is just so much better.

Not better than SB900 lah. Yes, it's improvement of SB600 but still below SB900.

Still long time till Nikon announce SB1000, as it would be the future SB900 replacement.

Agree ! Prob 2012 till something "above" the SB-900......

I'm getting two SB-700 to go with my one SB-900 and I'll have a great portable lighting solution :)

I like the SB700 for its commander mode, lots of buttons and the LCD.

I have had all flavours of Nikon i-TTL flashes. SB400, SB600, SB800, SB900.

When the SB900 came out I thought I saw heaven. Now the SB700 with EVEN more knobs for interface. GOLLY!

But no PC jack

They have put a lot of buttons on the small SB700 body, so no more space for PC Jack.
So we still have reason to stick on SB900.

I don't subscribe to this theory - there is ALWAYS space somewhere. Really.

SB700 is positioned as a move up from SB600. That is why they did not put in those features. Those who need the power and speed of use should still go for the SB900.

I am aiming at a couple of SB700 myself.. but I will wait after the initial BBB madness subside.

How big is the SB700 compared to the SB600, SB800 and SB900 ?
Get it from Nikon site: (W x H x D)

SB600 Dimensions 68 x 123.5 x 90mm (Approx.)

SB700 Dimensions 71 x 126 x 104.5mm (Approx.)

SB800 Dimensions 70.6 x 127.4 x 91.7mm (Approx.)

SB900 Dimensions 78.0 x146.0 x 118.5 mm (Approx.)

I think SB700 layout is too crowded, small body with too many buttons.
Not a surprised that there is no space available for PC chord.

 nikon don't want to eat into her own product... if sb700 had the ability to have pc jack... it will kill the market for sb900?
