So are we really going to have a EVIL or is it just rumors?

ok la... they still have the zoom lens options for the kits mah...
so for beginner is still alright, stil can go for the zoom...
if the buyer already know what he need then have an option to go for 35mm also not bad...

but sometime there are new user listen to friend say prime is good and get it and regert...
yesterday i saw a case of taking group photo about 80ppl in door, use 5D + 35 mm L... really take a long time...
not wide enough, move back and back, then got piller block... no lens to change...whole group move... really a pain...
others use PNS which start from 28mm... just shoot and done...
group photo only no need so perfact mah...

so really for those new user have to understand in deep before getting the 35mm option...

So are we really going to have a EVIL or is it just rumors?

Just google Pentax K-R and got lot's of link:
http://www.imaging-resource.com/NEWS/1284004910.html

The K-r includes a couple of first for Pentax's digital SLR lineup, as well as a number of important features that set it above the K-x, alongside which it will continue to be sold for the time being. Perhaps the most noteworthy upgrade in the Pentax K-r is its viewfinder focus point display, a feature whose conspicuous absence we questioned in our K-x review. The Pentax K-r also incorporates a larger, higher-resolution LCD display like that previously seen in the K-7.

Among the new features for the K-r, it sets a new high for burst shooting speed in a Pentax digital SLR, at six frames per second. (Burst depth is also greater than the K-x, although not as deep as for the K-7.) There's also IrSimple infrared connectivity, making its debut in a Pentax DSLR (and we think unique among any DSLR, unless something's slipped our mind.) Maximum expanded ISO sensitivity from a newly developed sensor is also increased to ISO 25,600 equivalent. The Pentax K-r also offers dual battery support in-body -- either a provided lithium ion rechargeable pack, or four AA cells with an adapter. There's also support for SDXC cards on the way, although this will arrive in a promised firmware update after commercial availability.

The Pentax K-r is also the company's first to offer microalignment for HDR images, a Bleach Bypass custom image mode, Sketch and Posterization filters, the ability to use filters during high-def movie recording.

Body-only pricing for the K-r is set at US$800, with availability from October 2010. In addition, three kit bundles will be available, including a either one or two DA-L lenses at a pricetag of $850 to $1,000, depending on the specific lens models. For more details, read our Pentax K-r preview.

Simultaneous with the Pentax K-r announcement, the company has also unveiled its new smc PENTAX DA35 mm F2.4 AL, also available from October, and affordably priced at US$219.95.

history is history..
using digitalcam is different from film era..

and lets not forget this range of pentax cams are targeted at which audience.
a basic zoom offers new dslr owners a more versatile option and more room for learning..
kit with 35mm simply means they are ignoring the majority of their buyers

don't underestimate the entry level market. most would have done basic (if not extensive) research and made their own decisions abt what lens they want to start with. many are also not totally new to photography, having owned either a basic PNS and used it in manual mode, or even prosumer models.

i think its good to give consumer choices. some may choose the DAL 18-55, some may choose the DA35.

the 35mm focal length is great for general photography and with a min focusing distance of only 30cm, its good for simple close-ups as well.

don't believe? just tape down your DAL 18-55 to 35mm for a few days and see if you find it very limiting ;)
