Avaiable in Singapore already?

Ryan, go to any local RODE distributor. they should have the product soon. http://www.rode.com/wheretobuy

it's priced at USD399. so do your math. Lol.

i am SUPER excited about this product man.. Finally I am going to save on all that Sennheiser G3 rental.

Can't believe you're still renting G3s. Thought you'd have your own set.

Thanks Deunamist,

Called up some of the local distributor but they said they do not have it yet. Wonder when it will reach our shore ?

On a separate matter, how do you think this wireless Rode compares with the Sony ECM-AW4 ?

Think the Rode will be much better. Based on the video, the guy's barely audible and there's a lot of bg noise.

But anywayz, you're comparing products from a different class. The RodeLink is a wireless transceiver set that doesn't run on bluetooth. As it stands, the price point is also different so not a fair comparison.

The comparison in this range would pit it against the Sennheiser G3 EW 100 Series, Sony UWP-D11 Wireless System and the Audio Technica System 10 On-camera Wireless System, of which I have all.

Or at least, I just sold my Sennys for the Sonys so I technically have owned each of them.

It looked really small on the release announcement. Now the unit size falls into the same category as the Audio Technica System 10 Wireless packs.

But I would say Rode would have a more solid lav mic then Audio Technica IMHO.

Their new System 10 is actually quite decent. Considering their pro audio line has been around for a while, it took them quite a long time before trying to do something for cameras.

With that said, I'm not saying that the mics are bad, but having used them on set I think they sound good for the money. All I said was the Rode lav mic would probably be BETTER, but the AT one is good as well.

I've been using multiple 2.4ghz mics for press conference setups since 2012, and there are lots more cons than pros with them.

Firstly, in general with 2.4ghz systems, we're limited to a few channels of usage in a single venue.
With reference to the RodeLink system, it was never documented until i wrote to their tech support, but you can only use up to 8 sets in a venue.
But that does not mean that you can effectively use up to 8 channels. Using 8 sets simultaneously is definitely stretching the limit of the 2.4ghz bandwidth.

In my typical operating environment (and also throughout Singapore in general), I often have to share the 2.4ghz bandwidth with WIFI, wireless presentation clickers, Wireless DMX lighting control, wireless intercoms, etc... Running just 4 units of my 2.4ghz wireless handhelds simultaneously already run risks of audio dropouts.

So with more people starting to adopt the 2.4ghz wireless mic systems, there will definitely be more interference problems surfacing.
Imagine in a press conference scenario where there are 10 cam ops filming together with 2.4ghz mics, regardless of brand. Only 8 or less can use it without issues.

Back to the topic of RodeLink system, I'm also one of the early adopters, bought it just to see how it performs and stretches out the limit. In my test environment, WIFI + my existing 2.4ghz mics + the RodeLink, the moment my 3rd 2.4ghz mic is switched on, the RodeLink dropped out intermittently within 3m apart. The moment my 4th mic is switched on, the RodeLink was killed. And this is not even maxed out on the available wifi bandwidth of supporting 8 mics.

Cons:
TX/RX Unit are BIG. Those used to G3 systems will definitely find it BIG.
The Rode Lav + Micon1 mic connectors are very long, and I think it will end up as a frequent wear & tear item.
Even if you buy 2 sets, you cannot do a camera hop scenario where 1 wireless lav is sent to 2 receivers for 2 cameras.
(Wrote to Rode about it and hope with next firmware update, they can enable this feature to do a 1 Tx to many RX scenario)
3.5mm to XLR cable not included, but then I guess their target market is for DSLR type shooters.

Pros:
Similar 3.5mm Pin out assignments to Senn G3 systems, so you can use the 3.5mm locking to XLR for a mic level output.
Very long batt life.
Decent audio quality with minimal latency.
