A Bloomberg article pins a recent 35 percent drop in combined market share for Canon and Nikon, in their home market of Japan, on the lack of mirrorless interchangeable lens offerings from the two SLR heavyweights. The article indicates that consumers in the country are among the world's earliest adopters of the smaller, lighter cameras, which lack a traditional SLR-type mirror but still allow for lenses to be swapped. In Japan, over 40 percent of July sales in the SLR category (in which mirrorless models are included) went to mirrorless cameras from Sony, Panasonic and others.
