My goodness. Miss Singapore World?!
I hate to sound impolite but I would have thought they would select someone who is perhaps a little bit more eloquent.
Certainly, it may not be fair to judge her by just one You Tube video, but i think all of us who have seen this video would already be imagining in our mind as she speaks with the International Host for the Miss Word Pageant: "Hiiiiiiii, yessrrrr I'm from Singaporrre! It's a loverrrly small island and wow! It Booms and Shouts!"

She wants to be a doctor? :bsmilie:
Huh?! I didn't catch that part? I only managed to interpret her wearing a bikini and a pair of jeans running down Orchard Road in her Boom and Shout 'herself' way...
I was confused if there is such a course "Healthscience, hospitality, travelling tourism"... wow, that is bao ka liao kind of course isn't it?
Maybe she missed out a part,it should have been: "Healthscience, Medicine cum Photography major, hospitality, Travel Phptpgraphy, tourism... etc etc".
That would make her a Camera-wielding Travelling-concierge cum Medical Doctor.

She is the winner? How could that be? She can pass the Q&A segment?

Her accent draws us close to the girl next door feel... isnt this what we want? girl next door and not quasi american girl who tries a different accent?
Maybe next time they should choose Ah Lian, at least her Singlish is Uniquely Singapore.

Please be easy on her... She is young and her exposure to media is probably still insufficient.

Really, it is not easy to be in front of the media. It gives the interviewee butterflies and whatever mistakes made will be part of the person's history. Remember mesiammaihum? A trained speaker can make that blunder, what more a teen...

Yes, i seem to be siding for her, but i just feel we need to support her because she is representing the country. Forget about the selection process. Fact was, she is there and she needs support!
I thought it was a joke when I first saw the video.

Lack of experience, uncomfortable in front of the media or whatever excuses one can think of, does it really matter? No. Ris will be representing Singapore. Good luck Singapore.

Btw, I don't think she was uncomfortable in front of the camera, she was just BAD.

Yes, Contaxable. I do agree with you. She is indeed young at 19 year old. My 19 year old girl still behaves like a child, thinks like one, and gives me lots of worry. But I know as a fact too, that there are many 19 yr olds out there who are surprisingly mature, steady, quick thinking on the feet, and speak with the air of a much older person (in a positive way).
Just that perhaps in hind sight, we could possibly find a contestant like that. Why? Because she is going to represent Singapore. Otherwise when the going gets tough at the Q&A section, she may stumble.
But of course, support her we must. Since she has already been selected. Bo bian right?

My holy cow. She won? Bad enough that we have contestants who do not know their limits and expectations of the contest, we now have to deal with judges who in the world can't judge for Chirst's sakes.

Not only is Ris not a beauty, she has poor articulation and diction. She wears 'bigini' and she 'rone know' what others think of her. And she has a 'strechgedy' to win despite her small boobies and jutting teeth.

I can still see some wisdom if someone with looks of Rachel Kum;p and speech of Ris Low is selected. But i definitely need someone to enlighten me about the whole Ris package.

Dang.

If you listen carefully, it's so obvious that she's trying to speak with an 'ang moh' accent, with the forced pronunciations and all.

I think most of us here do not have an issue with her joining the contest, but more about her winning it!!

Like that also can ah??

Like what i said, if you have an eloquant, well groom daughter who stands elegantly 1.85m tall and is beauty in every school and every club she goes to. Winning the pagent contest would not be your ultimate goal for her life. If you have a choice, you want her lead a better life.
bulldoze her to be with A*Star ...
