As a part 2 of the UV filter test from (http://forums.clubsnap.org/showthread.php?t=171421), the same filters were tested under direct light (flash, no sun these few days).

Filters that were tested (I only own these, tested on 1 sample of each) :
- No Filter (as reference)
- Hoya HMC UV(N) Japan
- B+W 010 1x MC, Multi Resistant
- Hoya UV Philipines
- Nikon L37C

Procedure :
Camera was tripod mounted, 1/2 f8 on a 12-24 AFS @ 24mm, flash on manual (1/8 power) , Auto WB. Sharpening off. Images were auto-leveld.

In terms of glare reduction, Nikon is the closest to no filter. The quality then appears to decrease according to the price of the filter used.

On the other hand, the flash radius (white circle) is worst for the nikon and the hoya.

i read somewhere that if you have a cheap UV filter, you better not use it at all

lens shade enough protection already.

*confused

:dunno:

I agree on this thought. Then again, no point spending a bomb (expensive filter) on a cheap lens. It's personal. In other words, to each his/her own.
