Resolution for printing.

Hello,

I would like to pose a question with regards to the 'proper' resolution of the photos that are used for magazine printing.

Let take the assumption that a photo is cropped smaller (4:3 ratio) @ 300 dpi. Is 300 dpi resolution for the cropped photo good enough for printing?

cropped or not, as long as you have enough pixel to make it to 300DPI on the mag, its good. so in order to provide you an answer, you need to state the dimension of the image... 300DPI means nothing, it could be 1x1pixel image or 30000x30000pixel image.

for more accuracy, check with your photolab on the the actual pixel size as noritsu (kodak) and frontier (fuji) machines have slight differences.

the above link has a chart somewhere near the bottom of the page where the sizes of noritsu and frontier machines are displayed.

i usually print on fuji paper so i am a little more familiar with frontier machines. there are three settings, fill in, fit to and no resize. to be accurate, get the pixel dimensions from your lab.

try to use a similar resolution to that of the photo u r printing
using an extremely high resolution to print a photo with low DPI will result in the photo looking a little weird, and quite fake
although its not obvious most of the time, it can be

if you have at least 180dpi should be good enough for photo print...

Noritsu has diff type of machines. Some 300DPI while some is 350DPI. Makes a diff if your image is not of teh std size.
