The red kite is a figure associated with lots of english folklore and used to be a very common bird in england. But as recent as 10yrs ago, the population within the UK was so low that people were talking about single digits in vast countryside. It is only recently with new tough conservation laws that the kites have started to see a come back again.

Wales is notorious for its horrid weather. Today was no exception. Only peeks of sunshine between long spells of dark clouds.

Circling for the kill

A buteo buteo just taking off from the hedge post to feed on the scraps left by the kites and crows. Buzzards sure are lazy birds. All they do is sit on the ground and feed!

And my favorite shot of the lot. The kite lifting off with its meal.

Most of the shots were close to full frame and were only cropped for composition. Last shot was uncropped.

Wow! good shots! what lens did u used? how far were u from the birds?

All the shots were done from a hide and the birds were just circling a 2 acre field infront of the hide

Nice shot. I like #4 with lifting the food.
