Hi all,

I'm new here!

Any good basic/mid-range recommendation for a DSLR? preferable a good low noise for night photos and a good image quality.

Tried before SONY's Alpha A350 but not really a fantastic one.

how is A350 not a fantastic DSLR?

Welcome to CS :)

Why not try out other capable cams like Nikon D90, Canon 550D etc?

A500/A550 has got good noise control.;)

welcome. i would recommend d700 (mid range).

You can consider a Pentax Kx. Mid range performance, low end pricing :D

hmmm.. my friend did tried a test on picture quality between alpha 550 vs nikon d90 vs cannon 550d.

Alpha 550 - colour too vivid (looks too fake)
cannon 550d - not very good
nikon d90 - most balanced

Like I said, which ever DSLR you use, you can adjust the color to your liking.

What's the point of setting to default and say this color is better than that... :dunno:

Whoever told you to do that has less idea of how DSLR cameras work than you.

How much is your budget... i would stick to Canon and Nikon if i were you. more resources to tap into. the Nikon D90 is a great camera. with canon, i suggest the 50D and up.

That may be true in the PH, but not here in Singapore. :)

You do know the D90 uses the sony sensor too, right? And that the benefit of DSLRs is that they are very configurable?

So the built-in antishake and fast autofocus in live view doesn't matter to you?

Is this really a good test?
This don't justify D90 is the best though I support D90;p

There are more to look out for instead of just comparing the straight out of cam jpg..:nono:
of course colour rendition is one of them, but not majority as colours can be adjusted and even manipulated. Shd look out for DR, spec, lens choice, viewfinder size, menu/access button design or even grip feel etc;p

thanks all for your great replies!
Now i understand that in term of colours can be set.
now i should look for is the specs and which can offer me more.
well actually i'm looking into either Canon 550D or Nikon D90. or is there any suggestion that you guys can give me ?
currently i love taking night shots/landscape/portrait.
