a 2nd hand DSLR perhaps from this forum. But please read up and use the friendly google to find out more how a camera works :). http://www.cameralabs.com/reviews/digital_camera_and_lens_reviews.shtml or http://www.dpreview.com/ to know more choices for your DSLR pros and cons :) . Last but not least Enjoy shooting if u happen to buy 1 :) . Oh if u happen to purchase a Nikon camera http://www.dtowntv.com/ check out this videos :)

I say get a proper point and shoot (P&S). Once you have been shooting for sometime and find that its the camera that's restricting your shots and not your own skills, then consider moving on to a prosumer/super zoom or to a DSLR. No point you get a DSLR now to realise later that all you want is to take casual photos.

You can get a poor condition 400D or a good condition 350D. Increase it a little and you might be able to steal a D60 for $650

If you're looking for a bargain, you can wait around and get a A200 for that money.

I would recommend that you take a look at the personal classified section in this forum to have a guage of the 2nd hand prices of the cams. Maybe you would like to increase your budget or get a prosumer cam instead.
