Hey guys,

I tried to playback the MOV files recorded by my 5dmk2 on a Western Digital WDTV HD media player but it turn out to play video only with no sound, stated that audio format not supported.

Too lazy to do file conversion. Any idea on which HD media player can support both HD video and audio recorded by the 5dmk2 direct?

From the WD website,

"- MPEG2/4, H.264, and WMV9 supports up to 1920x1080p 24fps, 1920x1080i 30fps, 1280x720p 60fps resolution
- An audio receiver is required for surround sound output. AAC/Dolby Digital decodes in 2 channel output only"

Think that the 5d mk2 records at 1080p 30 fps, so it's not quite compatible? (Canon's website is not clear on what 1080 format the output is).

Hi,

I also vaguely remember the 5D Mk2 records at 1080p 30fps, but 30fps is refering to video right? The WDTV deliver video images to my TV but no sound leh..

No idea whether 5D mk2 record in 2 channels or multiple channel thou.. it shouldnt be so power to record multi right? from the single mic it sounds more like mono to me.. :bsmilie:

Just wondering... can the Canon-provided software be installed in your ext HD, and you use that s/w to playback the .mov file?

My bedroom quite cramp.. not much space for that, unless use something tiny like Eee PC, but I guess it doesnt hv enuff juice to run HD video, and no HDMI out too..

Kongo, did you try hooking up the audio out to a Receiver and see if you can hear anything? Seems like you may need an amp to boost the audio signal?

sounds like you need a PS3...i have on hooked up to my TV and playing videos from my PC wirelessly. just need to install the media server software on your PC (on the wireless network) in any part of the house, and the PS3 will be able to pick it up. that's assuming your house is not a ranch or a mansion! haha
