Recommendation for Air-Con?

I am looking to purchase a 4 split-units Aircon system. I was looking around and I basically zoom down to Daikin, LG, Misubishi.

I plan to install aircon for all my rooms (master bedroom, 2 bedrooms and a study) and my aircon usage each day is high. I heard different things like Inverter and Non-Inverter. And either 1 compressor or 2 compressors. I am at a loss hehe

Appreciate any owner and user of the above 3 brands for your comments on the good and bad (installation, maintenance, energy cost savings, warranty and vendor support and price etc.. ) :)

I am Daikin user for 11years without any replacement and only one service to replace miniature motor for 3 blowers. LG is inexpensive. The new Daikin range is to save energy to replace the older models.Mitsubishi is on the high side with quality.
 

Hi,

Am using a Daikin inverter multi-split at home (3 rooms + 1 hall) for the past 6 years.

Pros:
a) Fairly reliable, had to ask technician to replace faulty PCB just once.
b) Quite quiet.
c) Energy efficient (because of the inverter -- which allows the main compressor to vary fan speed according to the cooling requirement).

Cons:
a) Each fan coil is quite small, and it has 2 layers of cooling fins to cool the air. Problem with this design is that dirt gets trapped between the 2 fin layers quite easily, and I have to clean the fan coil very regularly.

Overall, I'm quite satisfied with the Daikin a/c and would consider buying the brand again.

Daikin is the only company among your 3 choices that specialises in manufacturing aircon.

LG and mitsubishi makes other electronics product.They do not specialise in making air-con

Actually you may consider about carrier.They also specialises in making air-con

Just my 2 cents:)
 

One more point.

It is better to look at the outer cover of the air-con and see whether it is very easy to clean. Cover design with a lot of small holes will make cleaning a chore!

As Jack Neo says on TV when it comes to cleaning it..."So seem-pur" (Simple) :D
 

invertor systems are good for houses that leave their air con >10+ hours a day.. practically the whole day kind. It saves on your electricity bill but the compressor gas will be more expensive to refill than non-invertor kinds, however, the savings in electricity would have paid for it.
 

Basically no point comparing which brand saves the most electricity. In fact, all brand claims that their air con save XX% of electricity....
 

actually inverter unit are for people who use more that i blower everyday
that is where the savings comes from.

I use the Mitsubishi for 5 years already without problems

new version also easy to clean
 

Go for Japan Made/model and inverter if usage is high.
eg. Toshiba

Aircon is more powerful and quiet if got Inverter.

:think: it is a fact invertor saves more than non-invertor compressors for those who turn on their air cons 24/7

Agree, daikin failcoils need more maintenance regularly due to their fan design.

Mitsubishi i feel is quite expensive. But their fancoils are whisper quiet. Their compressors are relatively quiet as well compared to daikin. Their new starmex series that you can self clean are good as they come with vacuum nozzles to clean the fancoil when they get stuck. (but 1 thing that they did not mention is the jelly build up behind the cooling fins in the fan coil where individuals are unable clean and can only be cleaned by chemical cleaning or the occasional ice up of the fancoil.)

Daikin's condensing units tend to rot faster i feel - look at existing units outside HDB blocks ... some of them have green moss, some of their bases rotting. :sweat: ...

I'm using a fujitsu inverter for my home, just installed and have noticed a electricity bill drop. Have always used fujitsu / general for all my homes as i feel their fancoils - although abit noisy are extremely powerful for their size and cools the room pretty quickly.

Another factor is that daikin tend to have very odd BTUs when measured to scale when running individual units which are hard to calculate a good output from the compressor.

inverter system will vary the compressor motor to produce the power required when needed. Thus it saves more electricity...

I dun have the above 3 brands, I am using 4 split-units Toshiba inverter aircon.

Since your usage is high, an inverter aircon would be an 100% recommendation.
Not to say the the cost of PUB electric bills will increase soon.

If only 2 rooms are using at the same time (mostly when sleeping at night) (1 compressor would be ok).
3 or more rooms (2 compressor would be recommended)
 

hi... how about for low-usage households? say 8-hrs daily during the hottest month of year.
 

on a related note like every1 2 kno tt water condensed from d aircons can accumulate quite a lot of water.

details:

Toshiba 3-split,
1 unit "on"
abt 6hrs,
25 deg/cel,
1/5 power settings

abt 4.5L of water was collected. :cool: extimated by refilling a tank aft full flash. ;p

Let me paint my usage scenario

Normally during the nite at least 3 out of 4 rooms air cons are turned on . Even during daytime, at least 1-2 are turned on (i sometimes work from home ;p ). So on average its 10-12 hours of aircon turned on.

And since I am moving into new house with new renovation, I prefer not to open the window. Reason : just dust. My block is facing the road and also the block across the road will be tear down soon. So i expect tons of dust.

I was told that I dont need 2 compressors units. 1 should have enough power (BTU?) to support all my 4 rooms. I cant remember very well, but the person whom I talked to tell me something like each room can get like 7000. I listened and still confused haha

I have another question, normally how often do you guys get people to service your aircon blower units? I was told every 6 month is recommended . Is that true?
