Hi ALL,

Need your help to assist me in choosing zoom lens for my wife.

I need a breakdown of few lens for us to try once we hit the shore.

main priority has to be sharp and light for lady usage.

likely GP usage.

thanks

Body wise : still deciding on either a 450D or 40D but most likely a 450D coz its light

see how much you want to spend and the level of zoom you need.

If you dont mind reduced IQ, can go for the 18-200mm lens that gives a good range and quite light to carry. For best sharpness, either use tripod or rapid fire and hope for one picture that is good if handheld.

ignore $$ concern.

what do u mean by reduce IQ. There was lots of talks the 18-200 not being sharp.

Its a tradeoff for the convenience and weight savings for the traveller who is looking for a all in one solution.

if money is no object then can consider the following Zoom lens

EF-S 17-55mm f/2.8 IS USM*
EF 24-105mm f/4L IS USM
EF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS USM

*take note that EF-S lenses cannot be used on Full Frame bodies.

What range and reach are you looking at? There is always a tradeoff between range and IQ.

nothing specific. but more of a walk ard lens as she is still new so i would nt expect a huge and heavy lens.

looking for better IQ i hope. wouldnt want to compensate too much on quality

depends on the condition they are used.

usually the lower the F rating especially if constant aperture, the faster the lens are and work better in low light conditions which is why there are a lot of F2.8 users.

I hear good things about the Tamron 28-75 and 17-50.
f/2.8 and a whole lot lighter than those heavy Canon f/2.8 zooms!

correct me too

so what do u guys think of those aspect of lens

agreed with adamadam,

sharp zoom lenses are heavy and expensive, in the end, either your wife just leave camera bag at home or you are the one carry it for her.

adamadam is comparing the weight of Tamron 28-75 and 17-50 f/2.8 to Canon 2.8 zoom lenses.

since you are canon user, can you please tell me .....
which lens is sharper? 18~55kit lens or 17~55f2.8 lens?
which lens is heavier? 18~55 kit lens or 17~55f2.8 lens?
