For ultra compact, try Fuji Z5 @399 with free battery, 2G XD, pouch and LCD protector. Good image quality up to ISO800.

I find the ISO800 pics from the Z5 not very usable leh.. or maybe i'm more picky.. ;p
Of course not comparable if your reference point is DSLR, but with correct exposure and print only at 4R (not viewing at 100%) it is still way better than other ultra compact cams with the same specs.

Then again probably i am less picky ;)

thanks. It looks like the entire range of Fujifilm F series has pretty good reviews. Should I also consider them? which one will be in my budget?

If you up your budget a little, you can get the F31fd or the F40fd.

F31 is a good choice and has better noise control, but if you still prefer ultra compact and can up your budget, then you may wanna wait for Z100 which has 5x zoom and optical image stablizer (anti-shake). Arriving soon.

The promo price of 399 for Z5 is by MS colour (near AMK mrt).
