Need a nice, external card reader which can take CF I/II/SD etc (7 or 8-in-1). Needs to be USB 2.0, is of a reliable brand and make (won't risk damaging my CF cards on an inferior product), is compatible across any platform and with Lexar WA cards. Please provide model/make, place of purchase and price, if possible. Thanks!

BTW, I dont' mind paying more for a good quality and reliable product (after all, why risk a $400 CF card on something of suspect quality, right?) :)

challenger superstore at funan got a lot of brands available. from no-name brands (ard $40+) from china to branded ones like iomega ($70+). either there, or can try places like memory world, chamoxa (i think dats how the shop's name is spelt) or PC mart - all at funan. walk ard and compare prices?

i got mine from mscolor. winward 8-in-1 USB 2.0, early this year. cost abt $75.

Try Belkin, a USB 2.0 multi-card reader at about $50 plus. I got one recently from SLS. Fast and reliable.

top universal (SLS, #04-22) is having a promo on a hyundai 8-in-1 card reader for $29 (with GST). just saw it at hardwarezone.com. ;)

I got mine from flashcard-bestbuy.com. cheap and fast :)
Only complain is, it is a bit big....maybe due to its built-in with usb cable.

hi,

Any comment abt this silicon power's card reader for CF cards?
Also would like to ask abt Sanyo charger and rechargable batteries.
Are they good and lasting?

any brand will do.... this is after all a very low tech device. dun need to pay for branding.

what is a memory card? a temporary hard disk to store pictures from SD card?

AJ ordering from B&H the lexar card reader I think, check with him.

Ehhh...
So wat brand is your no brand reader?

Nowadays those taiwanese readers like dunno what Silicon Power, Pocket Reader and $20-30 stuff are quite fast. I could get in the region of 6MB/s from my USB 2.0 (brand : Pocket reader 8-in-1) with Lexar 80X 2nd edition. The new ones are fast, i have an older USB 2.0 (brand : Pocket Read also) one which goes only like 3MB/s with the same card.

I suppose the $70 readers like Sandisk Image mate would be faster, up to the individual lor. For download to notebook and image tank the fast reader also no use as there is a limit for 5400rpm HDDs. :)

mine is a PQI USB 2.0 multi card reader from Harvey Norman some time ago. abt $20 to $30. no problem using it.

ditto. my not-so-cheap 6-in-1 cost me 50 bucks probably a year back, but on the bright side, it's power by a SMSc chipset. i dont look for consumer branding, i look at the chipset.
