Hi everyone,

Can anyone recommend me a place where I can go to help retrieve data from my faulty external harddisk - a transcend 320G 2.5" Portable Hard Drive which sadly just out of the 2 year warranty period?

Appreciate any suggestions?

Thanks in advance.

JC

What is wrong with it? Doesn't turn on at all? Turn on but doesn't connect? Connects but failed operations? Just asking coz hardware recovery is a very expensive option... should try s/w recovery first if possible.

TS....Normally external HD spoil cos of container box spoil. Most of the time cannot power up, connect but HD are sill good inside. You can takeout HD and try to change with another container box. HD is more difficult to spoil than box. One of my external HD recover from cannot detect after change container box. I hope that will help you.

Hi,

i am also facing the same issue of trying to retrieve data from a spoilt media.

if your PC can still detect the HDD, good! - you can still use some 3rd party software to retrieve it. < google "Software Data Retrival" - there are quite alot of s/w out there.
if your PC CANT detect the HDD, then you need professional help.

my SD card is still being sent for retrival, not sure the outcome.
if you need any contacts, please PM me. I can give my recommendations by pricing.

You can check SD card recovery in http://www.cgsecurity.org/wiki/PhotoRec

If you have accidentally formatted/deleted important files, you can try this to recover:http://www.cgsecurity.org/

if your hard disk still can power up but cannot be detected, try DataRescue 3. I recovered 2 320GB and 1 500GB HD with it. It came free with a WD drive I bought.

My 500Gb drive can even recover the file structure and directories but not my other 2 drives cos they are formated for mac and I'm using a PC version. I have to rename the files.
